Adding text to a freehand drawing in MS won't work... I don't want text inside the outline of the tick... I won't no outline... the letters themselves to form the shape...

And making separate text boxes for each letter also sounds like it might not work... I would need the first letter, "I" curved to form the curve of the tick, for example...

Maybe scanning is the only way to go...

MS Word has a Word Art option... or perhaps that's powerpoint. I've used it in the past for fancy shaped lettering. You set your text, and then you can manipulate the shape a bit as well.
