looking at my options, the choices for a 7900 or a 7950 is nonexistent since the store I go to doesnt offer any.

I did do a further research wherein I checked where it has been tested INGAME. I must say that 7900 and 8600 has roughly the same performance.

A sample image here and the link is here:

I will still think on it as I have a few more weeks to decide. I dont know the prices may change. At the moment however, buying a 8800 Gforce card is not an option because its twice the amount of a 8600 in my store. Its bloody expensive here in australia and makes me wonder if the demand is high thats why the price is so high.

Yeah, the 7900/7950 cards pretty much better cards, however because they aren't DX10 cards, it's a tough decision....

Then again, it's not like any of the cards you are considering are going to have a chance of running any of the good DX10 games well

If you can wait a little while and save a few bucks, I would strongly recommend the new Radeon 2900XT which you can already get for about $550 AUS, its DX10 compatible and a decent cometitor to the 8800 series.

eeep lol 550Aud? I may be working now but I prefer not to go overboard with my spending yet

Current Prices for the video cards:
8600 Gforce GTS = 261 Aud
8800 Gforce GTS = 419 Aud
ATI X1950 PRO = 232 Aud

and now your Radeon 2900XT = 550 aud.

Trying to find the best value atm.

I understand, I just don't want you to make the same mistake coutless others do, and spend this money, only to regret it when you realise it's not powerfull and in months time if you want to do anything fun, you need to spend money again

Hmm...419 AUD is 30% more expensive for an 8800GTS than the internet sells them for, here, stateside...

Unusual. Sounds like tech companies just enjoy shafting Australians.
