Actually yes I don't understand what you're trying to say. I'm not even sure you read my first post because what you're saying doesn't even seem to adress the points I raised in it.

I read your first post. What are you having a hard time trying to understand? As far as I am concerned I am addressing the question you asked in both the title the end of the post where you say "If you remove the age factor, if you pretend all novels had ben writen and published at the exact same time, what make LOTR special, what make it "the best story ever written"? I just don't get it..."

How are you having difficulty seeing this when I answered it multiple times now? You seem upset/angry. I am giving you an explanation which is what you requested by making this thread. If you don't like the answer then that's another issue but don't tell me you don't understand the answer after me repeating it over and over and everyone else understanding it.

Translation of SpiritWarrior's post:
LotR is mediocre at best, and nothing at all makes it stand out from the crowd except for the year it was written.

But I said so myself in the first post, so of course I get confused when someone seem to disagree with me but tell me what I said myself. Is he disagreeing or not?

Also, I specifically asked what beside age make it better than others, if someone answer "age", tell me he understood the question, and accuse me of being angry/wanting an argument I'll be doubly confused.

What exactly SpiritWarrior are you trying to say? I don't see your point.

That I lurve you and my feelings for you can no longer be hidden?

Bozos is right, of course. I am agreeing. You just didn't seem to get what I was saying and now that you confirmed it, I now know. I wondered why you were arguing with me when I simply agreed with what you said, thus me saying how you seem angry/upset...I didn't understand why you would reply that way when I was just agreeing...

I agreed with you but offered some reasons as to why it was revered. The same reasons others did previously in this thread. I said if you removed the age factor the answer is nothing.

You may need to scroll up to see my answers were more than just "age". That's an untruth. I specifically quoted parts of your post and answered it. I thought it was plain and simple - and I said it multiple times in different ways. If you were that confused why didn't you just ask me to begin with?

I don't know, your first posts came across as argumentative to me I guess, which is what confused me on your intention. I wasn't mad, just not sure on what you were getting at assuming you were disagreeing.

Yeah, you didn't just say "age" but it was based on it.

LotR is not just a book, it is a work of great Literature (with a capital L). A thousand years from now people will still be reading LotR, just as we still read Shakespeare or Homer.

As to the specifics as to why LotR is so great, well there are hundreds of books/essays/papers that can answer that including university courses that are devoted to it.

There might be courses and papers on it, but those don't help us right now in this discussion. Could you point out to us some of those reasons?

I never thought there was anything overly special about LOTR in terms of a novel. I usually found my self skipping or skimming quit a bit of it the first time through. Reading it a second time toughly helped me find out about the world and cultures more but did nothing for me in terms of adding or enjoying the actual story. The Hobbit however is a great novel as everything is related to that story and I enjoyed every page of that book. Basically LoTR is overrated based on the world and cultures it is based on. As for the hobbit being less than 1% of the world that probaly helps it be a more enjoyable read as every page as to do with the current story, and we arnot given 50 pages of song and poems, and another 500 pages of background story that deters us from reading the actual story which could be taken out and made into another book of LOTR short stories and LORE.
