It's a great game, and I like it because I'm not enough of a button masher to play the micro-manage RTS games. It's great for the feel of Middle Earth. I keep meaning to play the evil side, but am instead working on the good side, probably my 5th time so far. Helm's Deep and Pelinor and infinitely replayable for a quick evening's entertainment before bed.

Well, it is an EA published game IIRC so they'll probably be releasing a "new" version once a year for the next 10 years

Finally got this game and I've been very happy with it. The simple unit development does make the game a bit less challenging... but I like it. Instead of having 20 unit types in play where you have to remember "lets see... the trireme only does well against the frigate, and the archer doesn't do well against berserkers...", and then trying to manuver the right troops into the right position, you only have a few unit types to manage. "Rohhirim go against everyone except pikemen, Rohhirim archers go against pikemen, otherwise let them both go at em".

I like the hero implementation also... hero's in Tolkiens universe were TOUGH somnbiatches. It's a riot to march Gandalf out and have him singlehandedly abuse 4 or 5 hordes of orcs.

And of course I'm a Tolkien nut... so eve the 3d map is the coolest thing ever. I just want to see versions of the game developed for the first and second ages and I'll die happy.

The fall of Gondolin, the war of wrath (playing Valar could be a barrel of fun), Neirnaith Arnoidia (spelling wrong no doubt), hell you could even have campaigns like "Turin and the bandits"
