it's not all the fault of plastic surgery, he does have a skin condition where he doesn't create enough melanin consistently (look at how he became white over the course of his carreer) I remember a barbara walkters special with him before the homosexual pedophile things came out and he discussed it on there.

in short I pitty him, but hope he enjoyed the fame and wealth while it lasted.

I do feel sorry for him, he didn't have a chance at a normal childhood being thrust into stardom the way he was, there was no way that wasn't going to badly affect him. I think he was really quite an attractive man before he started the surgery, he had a nice face when he was younger, always looked friendly and kind. It's sad the way people can turn out.
I've always considered Michael Jackson to be one of the greatest "stardom tragedies" of my lifetime. I remember 1983, when the Thriller absolutely sky-rocketed his career through the stratosphere. There was a popular poster of him back then, dressed in semi-casual clothes, laying back, propped up on his elbows (very similar to the cover shot on the Thriller album).

Like Epona said, he had devastatingly good looks. Every time I saw the poster, I kept thinking "This guy has the world at his fingertips. He has the #1 Album of ALL TIME, unlimited talent, and killer good looks". He even dubbed himself "The King of Pop" - and nobody could deny the claim. He had SO MUCH potential, but I think that it was this resurgance of his popularity that led to his downfall. He had been out of the spotlight for several years until the early 80's. Suddenly, he was the hottest thing going, and it was then that he started showing the first signs of "weirdness". Remember the sunglasses at the Music Awards? That was followed by "The Glove" for a few years when he "allowed" his brothers to start touring with him again. But he also started "distancing" himself from his fans at the same time. During the Victory tour - which reunited him with his brothers - they performed on a stage built high enough to prevent ANYBODY from even attempting to climb up on it. This meant that even "front row seats" were several yards away, so that the people could actually see Michael and his brothers on the stage.

Then the pedophile charges in the 90's signalled the completion of his downfall and shattered what little self-esteem and pride he had left.

I didn't realize he had a skin condition though. I thought his skin color was the result of "bleach treatments" he undertook to make himself more "white". I didn't see the Barbara Walters interview.

Yes, the saga of Michael Jackson always makes me sad. When I think of how much potential he had in the early 80's, and how he WASTED IT, it just depresses me. I do feel pity for him, but only to a certain degree. I agree with Magik that he did this all to himself...which just makes it that much sadder.

I saw a little of the court footage, but nothing this close-up.

Cerek, I've heard of the skin condition, and reports say its a legitimate disease and claim on his part. They also say wearing one glove was initially a way of hiding the condition on his hand.

I really liked MJ in the 70's and 80's, and this is incredibly sad, not to mention disturbing. It is always amazing to learn how a person, with so much going for them, can think so little of themselves. A little insecurity, obviously, goes a loooooooong way.

He has thought he was ugly and that his nose was too big for over 35 years, so he spent all these years and hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to change what "he thought" was wrong. Now HE has made all of his fears about his looks come true in the very worst way. Self-fulfilling prophecy.
