We are speaking about using the scroll on Kangaxx the demilich here. The scroll SHOULD work because the protected character/monster should be unable to cast any spell as a price for being immune to any spell but - according to my findings - Kangaxx the demilich can imprison your people even if it is affected by the scroll. I see only two explanations:
1. The Imprisonment ability of Kangaxx the demilich bypasses the scroll somehow (more probable, for example, the ability isn't considered a spell by the game).
2. The scroll failed but the visual spell effect (blue ball around Kangaxx) appeared and confused me (less probable because the scroll should never fail).

I had only two people actually fighting-Viconia, using the sling of everad, and my main char, which turned into the slayer. The other 4 members of my party couldn't hurt the damn thing (their weapons were all +2/3) but the slayer, though it was scoring about 3 dmg per hit, killed it very quickly because of a kick ass attack speed. I think Kangaxx's demilich form only has about 50 hp.
The sling of Everad works because it needs no ammunition and is a +5 weapon, so all bullets are treated as though they are a +5 in determing what they can hit.

Don't you think it's bizarre that five posts ago Dragon beat Kangaxx but we're still talking about this, that, and the other? ::chuckles:: Congrats on your victory, Dragon... er, Reborn... um, The? ::has no idea what to refer to him/her as:: Yeah.

Well, guess it's just an exchange of tactics. And we ofcourse have to find out about what the Protection from Magic REALLY does.
The Inprisonment that Kangaxx uses counts as an innate ability, and in the spell description (Checked with my mod tools) states that the spell bypasses all resistances and allows no save.

That "Imprisonment-as-Special-Ability" might be the cause, but another might be that he used the Protection From Magic Scroll on Kangaxx's Lich form, not his Demi-Lich form. When the Lich is down to sufficiently low HP, he is removed, and replaced with the Demi-Lich, which would NOT be under any enchantments cast on what was, to the computer, a totally separate creature.

I think you'll find you will get better results if you cast protection from magic on one character with a +4 weapon or better and send them in to fight the demi-lich form. I believe that's how the whole protection from magic idea got started on this thread

As for getting rid of the original lich form just place 6 or so traps before opening the coffin and bob's your uncle.

Um.. I assumed you would use the scroll on a character.

Precisely, you DO use the scroll on a character--but which character?

If you cast the Scroll on Kangaxx's Lich form, his Lich form is prevented from casting any spells outside his little sphere--no Wail of the Banshee, no Meteor Swarm--I don't know if he can still Summon that Pit Fiend or not. But when he changes to his DEMI-Lich form, the Lich is removed--and the Protection from Magic is removed, too. His Demi-Lich half is counted as a completely different character (which is why you can get 2 Rings, 1 from each form), and is NOT contained in the Protection from Magic sphere--unless you used the scroll on his Demilich form.
