Had to share this. Elaine Cunningham was asked if Liriel and Drizzt would ever meet.

Her reply:

Gods above, I hope not!

Don't get me wrong -- I love Bob Salvatore's stories and Drizzt is a great character. But the only thing Drizzt and Liriel have in common is that they're both drow. They are SO different that any story about them would be dominated by the "enemies forced to make an alliance to meet a common goal" theme, which is one of the most frequently used notions in fantasy.

And who would write it? Neither author wants to write the other's characters, and a collaboration is not in the cards. Wizards of the Coast owns both Liriel and Drizzt, and I suppose they could assign such a story to a third writer, but I can't see why they'd want to. Let's face it, if RAS wants a drow companion for Drizzt, he's more than capable of creating his own.

Some time ago, I answered this question on a message board with the following hypothetical meeting:

Liriel: (Oo! Cute little drow toyboy! Thank you, Eilistraee, goddess of the butt-neckid moonlit dance.)

Drizzt: (Danger! Matron-in-the-making! Strengthen me, Mielikki, whose unicorn favors the chaste and virtuous.) ::draws his two scimitars::

Liriel: ::sniffs:: "Put away the cutlery, honey, and take a look at THESE twins..."

::At this inopportune moment, Catti-brie walks in, and the ensuing catfight makes the season three showdown between Buffy and Faith look like a sorority tea party.::

According to Salvatore, "he's not done with Artemis Entreri" and "we haven't seen the last of him". RAS just signed a new 6 book deal starting right after Gauntlgrym, so expect to see AE in the future.

Azred. I'm pretty sure that Cadderley was JUST a cleric of Denier. 25th level, but still just a cleric. No Psionicist. He was originally designed to be a monk, but the monk class had been ripped out of the 2E rules so RAS had to modify his plans.

Drizzt, interestingly enough, was not originally intended to be the main character. Wulfgar was, and Drizzt was supposed to be his sidekick.

hrm...I always presumed that the song to which he listened was how he perceived psionic powers. *shrug* I could be incorrect, though, which wouldn't be surprising on this topic. I read all five books--they were okay but not great.

I have to admit, though, that using darkness and the ancient red dragon breath to destroy Crenshinibon was classic.

That was Deneirs song. The song of universal harmony that he hears as a connection to his god from reading the tome of universal harmony. He is essentially Deneir's chosen so has a direct "link" to the deity.

As a result, he doesn't have to pray for spells, just use the song to "discover" them. Basically he is being fed power by this song, allowing him to cruise through training in a sense that other clerics might take decades to arrive at. Think of it like a musical score memorized from a musical book. Every aspect of the god is contained within this music, and it plays continuously in Cadderly's mind, as if Deneir himself is teaching him. A cool take on it, which is why I was drawn to Cad in the first place. Again, RAS has some great characters...just he could use a bit more charm.

Thanks for that Micah and others. Geez, that world is virtually unrecognisable.

So I'm guessing of the other characters I grew up with have been wiped off the slate? At least if they're non-elf or non-dwarf anyway. Alias, Alusair, Danilo Thann, Dragonbait, Gareth Dragonbane, Harkle Harpell, Manshoon (unless he's got more clones stashed away?), Olive Ruskettle, Shandril (surely the spellfire burned her up?), Vangerdahast, Volo the Bard (who will write the Histories now), just to mention a few of the shorter lived ones. Have they been swept aside like a bunch of old rubbish now?

OK. Now I know I'm asking for a lot. But then again, I used to do this for people back in the day (pre-Spellplague that is). Does anyone have a list of the post-Spellplague FR books in chrono order? The one on the WotC website is hopelessly out of date and doesn't include any post spellplague stuff at all.

You can check out individual books at this site:

http://www.o-love.net/realms/fr_books.html

They have some information on time frames
