I have always thought of the People of NYC to be rather disconnected with reality...this is just an example...they act like it was all about them. There is more to the country than New York city and Film Producers.
Hey now, I'm from NY...

Not only that. I'm saying it also has feelings, and likes to rant upon occassion. It's a very complex emotional newsrag.
The NYTimes ABSOLUTELY has an agenda. For a supposedly reputable paper, every page is dripping with thinly veiled liberalism. It's really sad when you can't get a reported to just step back and give a story without letting his/her opinion get in the way.

Ah, but the Constitution doesn't exist for the Majority. It exists to protect the minority. The Majority was against interracial marriages, too, back in the day. In thirty or forty years from now the nation will look back and wonder how it felt the way it did.

Im sorry, I thought you were familiar with the discussion. I suggest you read up on the subject of what has been going on. It would lead us way off topic for me to sit here and go over the whole Gay Marriage issue and other liberal societal challenges and how it was being crammed down the throats of the people who turned around and voted it down.
Then I apologize, on behalf of the GLBT community, for demanding equal rights and protections for all taxpaying citizens. How dare we suggest such a thing.
I know you were being tongue in cheek, but don't apologize for demanding equal rights and protections for our citizens. What is really being crammed is inequality- down the throat of Lady Liberty. Have pity for them, if you will, but please- no apologies.

Question Mark

*sigh* Another thread derailed into a discussion of homosexual marriage? If every person in America should have completely equal rights with no one having more or less rights than any other person, then every program that offers any sort of monetary assistance should be expanded to grant assistance to everyone regardless of income level or ethnicity. If not, then there would be a disparity of rights.

No, I don't like the fact that discrimination exists, but life isn't fair and there will always be discrimination. If you think that Fundamental Christians dislike homosexuality, what do you think the Muslim community thinks about it? Universal acceptance from others is a dream to be left in kindergarten; indeed, if you accept yourself truthfully then you don't need acceptance from anyone else.

Anyway...by "beacon of culture" I mean a general source which many people tap as a source to follow. "Gangsta rap" became extremely popular by portraying life as it existed in the streets of Compton, and many people emulated the style of clothing and speaking typified in that genre of music. Hence, Compton is a beacon of culture.
I agree that Hollywood is a bubble of unreality, but many people watch E!, read celebrity-photo papparazzi rags, and make popular any show about fashion and/or makeovers. Hence, Hollywood is a beacon of culture.

It would be astoundingly naive to ask for universal acceptance, but this isn't about making religions or even individuals "accept" or "condone" homosexuality. The fight is for the *government* to treat homosexuals and homosexual relationships the same way they treat heterosexuals and heterosexual relationships.

I just love these two parts of the article....

"I'm saddened by what I feel is the obtuseness and shortsightedness of a good part of the country - the heartland," Dr. Joseph said. "This kind of redneck, shoot-from-the-hip mentality and a very concrete interpretation of religion is prevalent in Bush country - in the heartland."

"New Yorkers are more sophisticated and at a level of consciousness where we realize we have to think of globalization, of one mankind, that what's going to injure masses of people is not good for us," he said.

His friend, Ms. Cohn, a native of Wisconsin who deals in art, contended that New Yorkers were not as fooled by Mr. Bush's statements as other Americans might be. "New Yorkers are savvy," she said. "We have street smarts. Whereas people in the Midwest are more influenced by what their friends say."

--SNIP--

Ms. Camhe explained the habits and beliefs of those dwelling in the heartland like an anthropologist.

"What's different about New York City is it tends to bring people together and so we can't ignore each others' dreams and values and it creates a much more inclusive consciousness," she said. "When you're in a more isolated environment, you're more susceptible to some ideology that's imposed on you."
So basically, New Yorkers are more sophisticated, intelligent, globally aware, and cultured than us poor ole dumb country hicks. They're also "street savvy", unlike us ignorant country folk that are incapable of even thinking for ourselves.

Yeah...that does sound pretty "elitist" to me.

But that's S.O.P. apparantly. While looking up articles on the Electoral College, I found one that was extremely left-wing. It said all the same things about the backwards countrified, ignorant RED-neck states this article does - but took it a step further and said that there wasn't a SINGLE center of culture or creative thinking in ANY of the "Red" states. All the true "thinkers" were located in the Blue States...so we should obviously do away with the Electoral College completely so that us poor, dumbass country folk would let all the smart, sophisticated city folk tell us what was best for us, the country AND the rest of the globe for that matter.

It's just a dang shame Abe Lincoln didn't let us ignorant hicks leave the Union when he had a chance.

Those opposed to gay marriage will be remembered as those opposed to giving blacks the right to vote have been remembered.. as bigots.

Actually you misunderstand the purpose of the Constitution. The constitution is not for limiting the People in any way. The constitution is a document meant to put limits on the Government and it's power over people. If you study the document and the origins of it and the supporting documents you will learn this and many other interesting tid bits.

Well there you go with a simply assinine comment. I have never in my life been against the right of blacks to vote..

As for being a biggot I believe the last refuge of a man with no ground to stand on...is name calling. What next? crying home to momma?

Edit: If you were even interested in the subject, you would realize it isn't about denying gays rights. It's about preserving a cultural legacy and the definition of a word.
