Improved TorGal has a very fast Regeneration rate (think Kou-Toa Prince), lots of hitpoints, has a few Extra Healing Potions to drink, is permanently Hasted (or possibly Imp. Hasted), starts out Invisible, and he has a permanent, non-dispellable "shimmer" effect, similar to Improved Invisibility, which means that he cannot be targeted with spells. His THAC0 and AC are both rather strong, and each of his hits forces the victim to Save vs. Death with a +4 penalty, or be either drained 4 points of STR, or Slowed (50/50 chance either way). He also sees through all forms of invisibility.

He does NOT have any Yuan-Ti Mages or the like surrounding him, because if you're smart, you'll get him isolated from his bodyguards. (That's what the Tactics MOD is all about--tactics. Sneaky, huh?)

So--he has no ranged attacks or spells, but has a pretty high resistance to Missile Damage, so pretty much the only way you're going to take him out is with at least 3 Warriors with very high STR and a good THAC0, to dish out the damage as fast as possible. Your other party members can pretend to shoot Fire Arrows at him, or perhaps use party-friendly area-of-effect spells.

And did you do this without reloading? Whoa. Oh, and BTW, you can do it with summons. 2 Aerial Summons (I forget their name- the cleric's 6th level one), and 3 Skeletons, buffed up with just about every buffing spell in the book, as well as a solo Cleric/Mage shooting Melf's Minute Meteor's killed Torgal pretty dang quickly after he was slowed. The only trick was getting him slowed

No--way--in--HELL could I have done that without Reloading. Tactics is, after all, the "Power Word: Reload" MOD, with Improved Ilyich as its "Shut the Damn Door" component. No, I'm guessing that I went though about 40 Reloads, for the entire de'Arnise Keep. Took me all day to beat.

On the impressive side, I doubt very many people could say that they took Imp. TorGal down with a Level 9 Cavalier, wearing such impressive gear as a normal Medium Shield, Ring of Protection+1, and no Cloak, Boots, Gauntlets, Amulet, etc. The only spells we used were Stoneskin, Mirror Image, Haste, and a few Summons (whose main purpose was to help us herd TorGal into a corner).

So now I am insane?
You're only insane if you enjoy it. Me, I'm loving it. Right now, I think my personal favorite is the Improved Wilderness Encounters: I LIKE journeying 10 hours out into the countryside (so all my spell buffs have expired) and have a Red Dragon appear right behind my party (apparently, Red Dragons can Stealth) and open the battle with a 20D10 Fireball that hits my entire party--no time to cast Prot. from Fire spells, no time to run (not even the Boots of Speed or Ctrl-J can get a character out of the kill zone--this Fireball hits every party member, no matter what), and the damage is usually enough to kill at least 1 party member beyond all hope of resurrection. I love it! What a wonderful challenge for me and my party! There should be more battles like this throughout the entire game--why isn't there a Dragon in the Slave Ship, or the Circus Tent? A Dragon would fit right in in the Beastmaster's pens in the Copper Coronet, and there's room for 5 or 6 Dragons in Trademeet. Oh, I'm sorry--was I being sarcastic?

Oh, and Xen--good luck on Insane, with that 20D20 Fireball.

Hrm. With a lot of luck, and maybe a custom Monk, I could probably clear it using the good ole' Cloudkill around the Monk, and the Monk will run around in it and not get damaged. It just requires the Monk to be at a level high enough for the Protection from Posion thingie, and for a recharged Wand of Cloudkill. Oh, and a couple of Protection from Fire scrolls, and maybe a Chaotic Commands or so. I mean, with Tashia, Anomen, Kelsey, and a Monk, and a bit of luck, I might be able to do it. But not without that little bit of luck. (oh, and on a side note, you could probably get all of the stuff, and levels, if you just do the Slavers)

Doesn't the Red Dragon only appear after Chapter 6? If so, you could have a couple of +40% Fire Resistance rings, and the Ring of Fire Control, for a set 50%. Now... That should be enough, if most of your members make their saves, to save about... oh, 2, perhaps. Add in the Red Dragon armor, and you're saving 3 right there. With the Staff of Fire, you can also get another 50% Fire Resistance (Firesheild:Red), so that's 4 saved. If you manage to protect the lowest-hp ones, and the rest make their saves, then it should be manageable. Think of it this way:

20d10 means an average of 100 damage, and if you make the save, you can cut it down to 50 damage.

*edit* Any of you remember the first time playing Tactics, where you didn't know that you could isolate Torgal? I was at level 12 or so, having scampered away with my tail between my legs after seeing the first group of Trolls on the first floor waste me. It was chaotic. Fireballs, Sunfires, everything. Total slaughter. Of course, half of my party died, but sacrifices must be made.

You did not know?! Wow... It's the FIRST thing I made sure of doing. TorGal alone takes about 7 reloads... I do like the dagger you get from the guy, it's worthy...

And... Whoever has done Improved Iliych without reloading is LYING
