I did start with economical buildings first, but there's still not much money coming in at every turn. Basically because i immediately recruit troops once i get paid. I started a new campaign btw, the first one was going nowhere, this one is going more succesful so far. I just conquered Carthage, but immediately lost it again due to a local uprising. My army in that provence is still completely intact though, and i'm assuming it's mostly peasants that started this revolt, so i'll let the wardogs run the streets of Carthage one more time. Should i be harsher on the locals after sacking a city ? I mean like enslave them, or even kill the lot of em from time to time ?

Oh, and money is once again my main concern, but so far i've completed every single Senate assignment, and sometimes you'll get a reward of 1000 Dinarii, that's always welcome of course. And they're easy pickings too since it's mostly blocking ports for one turn.

Me neither, this was the first time. There WILL be a revolt if the garrison in the city is too small, that happened to me with several captured Gallic towns, i just figured if you leave them unharmed, and don't raise taxes too high, they'll happily serve their new master. That wasn't the case in Carthage though, and i had a pretty big army stationed there, so they have to be very unhappy with me as their ruler.

That's it then, i'll kill them all. But wouldn't that mean that there won't be any economical gain in the years to come ? I mean, no people is no income, right ?

Hey! My hotel in Detroit has free internet so I'm using it!

I have a vast empire and havent suffered a revolt yet. I simply exterminate the natives, set taxes to low and build town militia til I have 4-6 for my newly conquered town. I keep my invasion force nearby for several years just in case. I have yet to notice a significant economic loss using the extermination method. It maybe less money than if they were just occupied or enslaved, but I have not had any revolts...yet.

My empire expanded slowly and surely with this method. I have 15-20 settlements, make around 6,000 a turn and support 4 main armies for expansion.

I'm playing the Julii BTW and I went for Gaul first and then the spanish. I let my other Roman allies go south and east where they are now bogged down nicely and will make for easy pickings when the time for my rise to imperator comes! My expansion will continue north and east next with Germania and the Britons in my crosshairs.

My greatest challenge has been controlling the seas. If it wasnt for the other Roman factions I would have zero naval presence. They kept enough support around for my navy to slowly develop strong enough the face both the Spanish and Carthigeans.

Enslaving is really usefull, as the slaves are added to your other cities, helping them grow.

Killing them off is wasting good slaves.

You don't enslave or kill them all off, by the way. only maybe half or so.

There's another huge difference i overlooked the first time, occupying the city, or enslave the locals, was gonna give me somewhat 1500 Dinarii (i'm talking about Carthage here), while killing the locals gave me a whopping 15.000 Dinarii. I guess from now it's no more Mr. Nice Guy, being a coldblooded killer pays off much more than being soft on the conquered.

I found my way to be profitable.

of course killing the population will decrease the size of the city and so you'll get less dinari/turn from it.
you may be hurting your economy more than you think johnny

That's okay, i'll rebuild the economy with my own people, at least they don't revolt, especially not with moderate taxes. It sure beats having to worry about uprisings whenever i move my army away from the city in question.

I thought i almost finished the campaign. I know you gotta rule somewhat 50 provinces and take over the senate to win the game, and currently i occupied half of Spain, the whole of Gaul, the entire Dahcian and Thrace regions, all lands that used to belong to the Carthaginians, the Nubian lands, and i advanced deep into Egypt (last captured cities are Memphis and Alexandria). I also captured large parts of the Briton's lands, as well as some islands in the mediteranean and Syracuse. When i got a message that my popularity among the Roman people had risen so high that i should claim Rome as my own, i thought that i was entering the final part of the campaign. The senate must have felt it too, because they demanded that my factionleader should commit suicide, otherwise i'd be outlawed. Of course i didn't do that and took Rome, but the game is far from over. Now the Brutii and Scipii factions turn against me, and they have massive armies all over the map and in my lands as well, since we used to be allies and had free passage. I guess now the trouble really starts.

So when is it over ? Do i need to conquer the entire map ?

you need to take over the brutti and the scipii, and control 50 pronvinces, as well as the senate.
