Whats being promoted is the eradication of a cultural/religious foundation that some people will not let go with out a fight.

If bigotry constitutes a cultural legacy, you are absolutely right.

Maybe you should take your own advice, that you dispensed just a few short posts before.
Nothing would be eradicated, rather marriage would gow, prosper, and gain devoted followers, thereby strengthening the 'institution' and increasing the joy and all the other ideals marriage stands for.

I Love NYC, so many of the poeple there are nice and very friendly. I visited NYC with my family last spring, my family lives in the deep "red" south. We were not treated like second class or looked down upon, southern accents and Auburn t-shirts and all.

This whole issue of NY elitism and red vs blue is artificial and are distractions. Another in a long line of distractions this election season.

Well, this current "distraction" comes from the newspaper and citizens of NYC itself...so if you want to blame anybody for it, blame them.

You forgot to add the obligatory attack that those opposed to gay marriage are just a bunch of right-wing religious fanatics. If you're going to apply labels, please try to get all of them in there.

But I don't believe that to be the case at all. The religious wing imo, taking it as faith to oppose a sin, is the most valid opposition to gay marriage there is. Although I don't understand why they think gay marriage is a threat to the sanctity of marriage or family values when divorce levels have already shattered that excuse. The religious community is not as vocal in their opposition to the sin of unmarried couples who live together either which leads me to the conclusion that either one sin is greater than the other or that their opposition to gay marriage has nothing to do with it being a sin at all.

Ah, but the Constitution doesn't exist for the Majority. It exists to protect the minority. The Majority was against interracial marriages, too, back in the day. In thirty or forty years from now the nation will look back and wonder how it felt the way it did.

Actually you misunderstand the purpose of the Constitution. The constitution is not for limiting the People in any way. The constitution is a document meant to put limits on the Government and it's power over people. If you study the document and the origins of it and the supporting documents you will learn this and many other interesting tid bits.
Fabulous. Then you agree with me that the amending of the state constitutions was extremely out of line?
