It is the USA or United States of America, America actually includes all of the new world both south and north. Now we english people use America for short instead of the USA because well we are, well just plain lazy when it comes to languages. We try a shorten everything that is why we have such a slew of words. We also use Americans when refering to the people of the USA because we would sound pretty foolish with United States of Americans, when refering to people. Sigh! We often refer to people for Asia as Asians, but if you say Americans we generally are refering to people of the US but in truth it really refers to all people on this side. Sigh! Why must everything always be so complicated?

Speaking of hatred did any one catch Pat Buchanans comments. It seems some Americans have some hatred of their own.

These are some of his past comments:
1. "Canada is a whining country that has been freeloading off the U.S. defence budget for decades."
2. "For most Americans, Canada is sort of like a case of latent arthritis. We really don't think about it, unless it acts up"
3. Canada is a "Soviet Canuckistan"

You know this guy really makes me laugh, the sad part is he is serious in his beliefs and isn't joking. Oh Well! He just made himself the blunt of jokes for alot of canadian late night comedy shows yet again.[/QUOTE]I hate to tell you but "United" is a verb.
"States" is a noun, but 'state' is just another word like 'country' and 'nation'. The only proper noun in the name of the country is 'America', the rest are situational descriptions. Like Kingdom, Republic, Principality, Federation, Union, Confederacy, Commonwealth etc.

'The Americas', are the two continents of North and South America. 'America' is a federated nation. Americans are perfectly justified calling themselves that. [img]smile.gif[/img]

However I think Pat Buchannan is a bit pathetic and a throwback to the stone age. I suppose there are a few things I like that he supports, but in general he is way too radical.

just remember it's our planet and it is what we make of it. No matter what we do there will always be somebody out there that thinks his or her way is better than yours or mine! what we need to do is stand together against these Mr.know it alls and send them packing. we need to realize that the majority of us are friendly peace loving people and we don't hate anybody nor do we really care what the other guy is doing as long as it doesn't effect us. In most cases this is what the whole world thinks, everyones biggest consern is that they have food on the table a roof over their head and a security system that will keep the Mr. know it alls out of our house with their Ideas of world conquest and their enlistment of the assholes of the world who don't really want to work and would rather take what you & I have. At the same time they try to make everybody else hate their brothers and sisters by making up lies and stories behind their backs. The next thing you know it becomes global and somebody tacks the name terrorist to it and this will scare more people into hateing each other. It has to stop!, and it will hopefully in piece and if not it will end in one hell of a World War! What then? Do we all die ? its that what it will take for the People of the World to come to their sences? probablely not because the human race has been doing the same thing over and over again for the past 20,000 years and we still are ready to kill each other at the drop of the hat. I hope this makes somebody think just a little before it's to late and the only thing left is radiation, poisen gas and rotting Human flesh.
