Have you found the crystal shard yet? If you have, there is a wooden stake on the shaman or captain's body.

Yeah, I have tons of them sitting in a box back at the Paladin stronghold, but I usually don't carry things like that around (I horde all teh treasure and I tems I can in dungeons, then sell it all. I had much more than 100,000 gold when I went on to chapter 3. Is that normal?)

Normal for a fighter, maybe. I know my mage always spent his huge wads of cash as soon as he found them. There is a stake floating somewhere around the dungeon, I think. You also get an "extra" one in the vampire eradication quest, if you kept it.

If not, use shadowkeeper or CLUA.

My fighters usually spend more cash than my mages...

Well, the cash matters not really. I am still in Chapter 2, and main char is already lvl 17 and have almost 300k cash.. It's easy when you do almost ALL quests there are I personally figured that I will do all the quests with all the possible NPC's, who can join the party. Yesterday got things done with Edwin... or should I say, Edwina, now, heh... and now move on to Jan Janssen and... hmm.. maybe will do Mazzy, once I am done with Cernd.

Back to topic.. I always carry at least 1 stake with me. Never know when it's gonnabe handy hehe. But regarding Asylum, I think there was a stake in there too. As someone suggested, check the lil' dudes near where you got the shard (btw, I never figured out whether the shard has any use after all). In any case, there should be a stake in the Asylum.

this seems to be the most common question I've seen asked on these forums. I think Black Isle should put a note on the box "make sure you have a stake when you go off to spellhold, or else be keeping an eye out for one when you're there!!"

even better, make it one of those little tips they always give you in the load/save screens.

It is needed to proceed to the next level. Just try not to keep it, and see for yourself...
