I had the extreme luck and pleasure to log in about the same time a guy was setting his friend up as a new character. After he was ready to adventure for the first time, we three went to the basement for a bit of fun until the new guy's friend had to go. I passed on some cool gear I had to our new adventurer and he asked where any more stores were, so I introduced him to Skullport from the secret entrance route. We wanted to really get into some action then, and so visited the Guantlet, only to run away after the first two monsters. We were not high enough in level to even breath the air in that god-forsaken place.
We backtracked to the Inn, and went down the well as we were meant to do. Running around in level 1 long enough, my new trainee was quickly bogged down with all the loot I was letting him take for himself. After the Fire giants home invasion, he needed to go back up top to sell and I needed to go to bed, though I had no idea what time it was. I log off and see my mother board screaming bloody murder at me because it had overheated! No wonder there was lag for me while the other guy was loading areas so much faster. Also, I was shocked to see that it was 4am on the nose! More crap! But in all, I had a great time. New gamers are so fun to game beside.

Dude, you better rip that cover off and clean the CPU fan and stuff. That's gotta be causing it.
Has it done this before? Fix before it dies. Do you have a CPU temp monitor program? What kind of GPU do you have? The new ones will whine and beep when they overheat. Check that too.. dust is the #1 killer of PC's that are in otherwise fine condition. Glad ya had fun man!!! |

I need to buy some of that expensive canned air crap, and then I'll get into the machine and clean it. I used to do so monthly like you had suggested long ago, but I have not done it any this entire year because I am such the fool.

Take a clean, new paint brush, and gently wipe the inside clean. (not near jumpers though). I do this all the time.
Canned air doesn't remove the dust attached to the fan blades. Check the fans on the cpu and video card closely. I was SHOCKED when I took off the cool graphical cover that covers my heatsink on my video card to find that the inside of the heatsink was clogged with dust!! I would have never seen that, had I not removed the tiny thin metal cover. (it uses tiny screws too). its save to remove. no worries there. When I cleaned it, that lowered my video temps 10 degrees!!!!!!!!!! |
