I'm currently using a Human berserker dualled to a mage...a VERY powerful combination, actually, as long as you don't mind not having armor (there are plenty of AC reducing items in the game, as you probably know already). Dualling was very fast as well, as you tend to rip through the lower levels at a very fast rate.
If you do dual like that, though, I'd recommend bypassing accepting De'Arnise keep and go for the Planar Sphere for your SH...especially if you played a dwarven fighter. I've also heard the Ranger/Archer kit is a cool one to play; any spellcaster rocks, and if you don't mind not levelling very fast, you could try a non-human multiclass character. Thief/Mages are usually in high demand, especially since you don't have much to pick from in the way of thieves in this game. I've also heard a lot of players liking Monks as a PC because of the punching ability. Hope this helps! ------------------ |

To consider the ToB XP cap. Then dual at level 11 to maximise you mage's abilities You can cast time stop and smack everyone for free! |

Someone powerfull ey? Well, THE most powerfull being in the Forgotten Realms is undoubtly the Lich... and would you ever like to become a Lich, mage is the the choice!
Don't care about other people saying Mage/Kensai is the best. Pure mage, with no specialization is the most fun thing to play! ------------------ We call him Bobby Corwen |

A barbarian, monk, or berserker, I'd suggest. Those should be wuite good. Personally, I wouldn't suggest a mage-type since you can get Edwin and he get a lot of bonus spell slots, but... you choice. I that case, a fighter dualed to a mage is good. Hmm... Actually... You might want to make an Assassin... 7x bs and traps are great...

My personal favourite is the Elven Archer. At first he/she is a fairly good fighter although he/she is of course better off standing next to the spellcasters in the rear. As you gain experiencethe Archer is easily capable of clearing whole area's of monsters double-handedly, while the other five partymembers stay out of trouble.
Although not as powerful in H-T-H as other fighters, Archers are great when it comes to dispatching entire armies one soldier at a time. The major disadvantage is that there are no arrows better than +2, so you can't hit certain mages all the time. (Just wait 'till the spell duration runs out) ------------------ The last arrow of Legolas kindled in the air as it flew, and plunged burning into the heart of a great wolf-chieftain. I agree on Legolas. Elven archers are cool, although I don't play them. I think that Barbarians are pretty awsome. They got Barbarian Rage, and their speed is pretty high-based. Watch how they move, wearing the Boots of Speed. The only disadvantage is the fact that they cannot wear heavy armor; you'll have to get some decent protection in order to let him survive a one-man battle with a Demon Knight...
------------------ In the foul darkness one figure will emerge to save the world from evil and despair.... Light flashes as his sword comes down, and thunder rolls through the sky when he points his sword up to heaven to signal his victory....People whisper his name as he walks by, evil tries to hide as they sense his presence nearby.... His name? Link...... |

For a bit of fun try a halfling swashbuckler. Lots of good theiving and stealth abilities, good armour class bonus and THACO bonus as you progress. Also very good with two weapon style (especially with a katana and items that boost strength).
