Here's another paper you might find useful.

http://www.columbia.edu/itc/chemistr...e_kinetics.pdf

Most of the equations I've quoted are in the first few pages, but when you throw CFCs into the mix there are new reactions to consider. Scroll down to page 8 to see the new reactions and the modifications they cause.

There are 5 simultaneous differential equations that have to be solved in order to calculate the effect. That's asking a little too much for this thread I think. LOL

Just remember that before you add CFCs into the mix, ozone creation and destruction rates have to balance. If not the Ozone cycle would not be in equilibrium.
Thanks that last paper had what I was missing;

ClO + O → Cl + O2

I see the ClO also reacts with O and snatches them up.

The process

ClO + O3 → Cl + 2 O2

looked to me like eventualy O2 would reach a high enough consintration to reach an equalibrium, when the UV split O2 into 2 O which could then join with 2 O2 to reform 2 O3. But if Cl can snatch an O then it throw a monkey wrench in the works.

Love the cartoon! Global warming does seem to be occuring to an extent. But even if it was not having cleaner air is still a good ting.

Cute political cartoon.

The things it lists--energy independence, sustainability, etc--have very little to do with the subject of "climate change".

I will note that if you want to preserve rainforests then you need to talk to countries like Brazil because we don't have rainforests here to preserve.

I didn't realize the Pacific Northwest rainforest was being burnt and strip-mined like the South American ones. Speaking of which, weren't those forests supposed to have disappeared by now due to the thousands of acres being lost daily back in the 80's and 90's?

Oh well, no matter. No reason to let a few trivial facts get in the way of some good rhetoric.

Ah,yes, the old tired argument that the sky didn't fall so you must be right.

Or, maybe.... the more likely truth is that Brazil and other S. Am. countries cracked down on deforestation so as to avert catastrophe, at least to some degree. See, that's why chicken little's point out that the sky is falling -- so someone can help stop it.
