Alignment choices

I'm curious as to what alignments people have chosen for their characters in BG1 and BG2.

I have a neutral evil half-elf fighter/mage/thief and i'm not very well liked in the world of faerun

My favorite class to play is Chaotic Good, because that is the stereotypical Robinhood class.

In more recently released games, where they have fewer penalties for characters that have a mean streak...I choose more neutral based characters to play, for the RP experience.

In this game, they heavily penalize you for being against the normality of society, so why did they even bother offering the option?

I usually also play chaotic good, but i think all of the neutral alingments are interesting as well as neutral evil.
