I don't know if this has been said yet - I don't have time to read everything in here - but I just wanted to say how much I respect New York's Mayor. That man seemed to be everywhere this past week, right in the thick of it. New York can be proud of him - as can all of America, imho.

Fljotsdale, uh..let me first say that if you meant the President 'ran off' he didn't .. that is STANDARD procedure for preservation of the commander of our armed forces in times of danger and our political leader who needs to be alive to continue the necessary business of the country in those times. It makes him a difficult target. (it's automatically presumed that he IS a target in such incidents)

Sorry if that sounds a bit gruff, but man, oh man, I'm so tired of the implications that a President (no matter what name - and no, I didn't vote for Bush!) is a coward because he is following the protocols and doing what is needed to maintain our chain of command and stay alive to keep the chain of command intact in a situation that may be terrorists or other calamity. These things are contingency plans in place for ALL sitting presidents. Frankly, I'm not sure he has much choice in the matter, as I said those are protocols for protection of our Commander in Chief and President in times of danger to the country. Let me just say that I'd not like to be wondering who was making decisions and how things would be done if all the top (ELECTED) officials in the hierarchy got blown away by some bomber. sigh.. ok.. off the soap box!

ER..F? You know I like you and even though we don't always agree on things, I have great respect for you and the way you express yourself.. so . if that wasn't what you meant.. just tell me and we'll apply it to all those other posts from other people!

OH and about Giuliani, yes, I agree with you! I think he is quite amazing. His press conferences right after the towers fell were inspiring. He'd lost personal friends and just been notified of the loss of firefighters and he was visibly shaken but he made it through that interview with dignity and class. Answered questions truthfully and as completely as he could. I give him credit for a whole lot of strength and couraged and devotion to his duty and the people of NYC.

Gosh, no, Cloudy, that isn't what I meant at all! So sorry! Just that the area was dangerous and many people in a position of authority would have high-tailed it out of the city, and he didn't... I'll go delete that bit of my post right now!

Fljotsdale! No problem! Geez, I'm as hypersensitive as the next person these days, so sorry! I didn't think you meant it but the idea has been kicking around other threads and I guess I just had to rant. Forgive me, please!

No worries! I haven't been in any threads that said anything derogatory about Bush, so I didn't know. I'll try to think more before I submit posts in future, to be sure I'm not saying stuff that could be misunderstood.

I seem to have been getting in trouble a lot lately without ever intending to, sigh! Ah, well, we are all oversensitive at the moment!

And rant as much as you like! No harm in reminding us!
