Aelia Jusa cannot get to Ironworks lately. She says it started a while ago (about the time Neb posted about it), and she could get here in the first day or so after the server change. Now she cant again. She simply gets a "this page cannot be displayed", and she cannot ping the IP.
She changed her DNS server settings, but that didnt help. Has anyone got any other ideas for her ?? [ 04-17-2002, 02:39 AM: Message edited by: LennonCook ] |

It's possible one of the DNS servers from her cable (?) company is having troubles, I've had a similar problem as well once. Could you ask her if that's the only site she gets this error or not?
If not, then it's probably what I just said...

I had a similar problem right after the upgrade. I couldn't ping the DNS (www.ironworksforum.com) but I could ping the Ironworks IP (24.26.79.51}. If she can ping the IP but not the DNS then it's a DNS problem. Telstra must be the most @#$% ISP in the whole world.
Tell her to try this alternate DNS server in her TCP/IP settings (I assume she knows how to do this): 61.9.192.16 She might have her settings set to automatically resolve DNS, get her to put that DNS server in manually and see how she goes with it. |

We are 24.26.79.61 now, so tell her to try to enter "24.26.79.61".
Also, use a new DNS--even Roadrunners if you want, that is our Internet backbone provider now. Let me know. On this new server, I own the following IP's 24.26.79.61 24.26.79.60 I will use .60 for tgeweb.com and I am thinking of another domain as well for yet another site. secret stuff for now.. can't say anything! [/QB]
That probably explains why she can't connect using her broadband connection. If you were still using your ADSL connection you wouldn't be able to connect either, unless you specify an alternative DNS server as mentioned above. Telstra normally take about 2-4 weeks to update DNS sometimes, which is pathetic. |

Ok, she just mailed back, apparently the IP works, the domain name doesnt. Ive asked her what her DNS server is set to, and I will give her the alternative one to use. I just hope she doesnt have the alternative one Memnoch posted as her DNS!! ... I wont know what to say!! Oh, and Memnoch- I *am* still using ADSL... im hopefully not going back to the ice age (56k...) for a long while yet |

Just my 2c. About Aelia's problem, tell her to go to www.whirlpool.net.au, go to the forums, and do a search on DNS servers, that should bring up a list of alternates that she can use. Keep us updated, I hate the thought of her suffering. [ 04-18-2002, 10:25 AM: Message edited by: Memnoch ] |
