I just finished it, it's by Thomas Reid, whose books I've never ever read before, but I'm very impressed. Not only does he spin a decent story, but he really gives you some insights into roleplaying a party of essentially evil, self-serving drow. And surprise surprise, they're not all slavering bloodthirsty psychos like some of the "evil" players you meet at Gamespy or Everquest. They just happen to be selfish, occasionally arrogant, self-absorbed and supremely pragmatic.
Compulsory reading for a) anyone who wants to roleplay an evil character; and b) anyone who thinks that roleplaying an evil character means killing everything in sight. |

W A R N I N G . . . S P O I L E R S . . . 1. Who is Zammzt? That nondescript, plain-looking drow male who seems to pop up throughout the movie? Could he be Vhaeraun in disguise? SPOILER - highlight if you want to see: 2. Or could he be a shade from Netheril - notice how at the end of the book he "steps into the shadows and vanishes". Hmmm...if this is the case, then maybe Shar is somehow involved? 3. Chaos is change by its nature, so whatever Lolth is planning must be something really earth-shaking by drow standards, since there's no point going back to the status quo. Maybe we're seeing the end of the matriarchy as we know it? 4. Whatever Lolth is planning, Quenthel's return (after she was supposedly slain by Drizzt in the drow attack on Mithril Hall in Seige of Darkness) must be a key part of it. We still don't know why she returned, though there are hints in Insurrection as to her return - I suspect we won't find out till Book 6. Anyway, some thoughts for you guys to ponder on - what does everyone else think? [ 01-12-2003, 08:28 AM: Message edited by: Memnoch ] |

The Starlight & Shadows books are quite brilliant. All hail to Elaine Cunningham I hope Windwalker will be as good as DOTD.. At least Cunningham promised to portrait Liriel as more of a classic Drow rather then a Drizzt rip-off in the last book.

Cool. I read this books years before and no one knew this books. I loved them. DotD and TW are great stories. And no I see that I am not the only one who couldnt wait for a sequel.
I think I will try Insurrection too. The first book is Dissolution, isn't it? Does anybody know the name of the author? (Sorry for my bad english writing, is not my first language) |
