I am trying to play on a home LAN but the cant find the computer with the game created on it. is there any tricks to network play with ipx? any ideas would be great.

I've never tried to MP with LAN or IPX, only TCP/IP. You could try this link to PBG's multiplayer help section, although it looks pretty elementary:
