OK you've probably read my thread about my ps2 problem, if not its here Well the thing is Sony (bunch of b*stards) want £80 for a repair which could take up to 5 weeks, since new PS2's only cost £130 I thought I might aswell fix the problem myself since I know its the Cd drive that is causing the problem. I thought if I could take it apart, clean it, then put it back together again it might work, what do u think?
The problem is I can see no way to take it apart, there doesnt seem to be any visible screws etc. so Im not sure how to get into it, does anyone know?

If you have totally abandoned any hope of Sony helping you, remove the sticker on the back next to the power switch. You must do this to open the case, though I don't know specifically how to open it beyond this step.
Sony will not help you fix your system if this sticker is removed and the case is opened, not even for money, so do so at your own risk. |

If sony can get in it you can as well
*checks brother's ps2* I couldn't look very good as it's in a cupboard and the wires are short but I found there is at least one screw on the back. It's behind the CD drive. Good luck trying to fix it. Aand I guess if you can afford that 50 ectra it's definitely worth a try. |

You have to drop it from a great height.

.. or smash at it with a big sledgehammer.
Seriously though; the fact that you can't find any screws is exactly the reason that Sony can afford making the repair service so expensive. They alone 'know' how to open the casing and such. |

Yeah, they specifically built it so no one would be able to open it up easily...I advise against this option...My friend's stepdad took his apart to fox a problem, and after he put it back together again, it wouldn't work at all. Of course, I'm only warning you...go ahead if you feel confident enough, by all means. It's just a bit of a bummer if you open it and completely stop it from working, and having to buy a new one for an extra £50. Sure, 5 weeks is long, but it is the cheaper option...

Umm don't do what Link suggests. If it's the infamous DRE issue go to TechTV.com and somewhere in there they have instructions on how to fix that. Or you can do what Morgan Webb from X-play did. Take the PS2 to a rifle range and blast some holes in it with an assault rifle.

Don't open it or you'll void your warranty. if you love your ps2 just send it for repairs.

Kakero, if it's gonna cost him £80. I think his warranty is already expired.
