Howcome? If I grab Yeslick mid-game, he'll spawn at a higher level anyway.

Yep. Kind of a trade-off.

You can either explore to your hearts content, leveling up the party and branwen, and head into the mines fully powered/prepared.

Or you can save all of the exploring, and head to the mines straight-away. Would be quite hard to survive
