Johnny, were Israel to nuke Iran, Israel wouldn't exist more than a week after that. No country would support them. I doubt even the US would have troubles supporting them after that... And Israel can't survive on it's own.
And who do you think would be capable of doing that to Israel ? Which arab country has that kind of power ? All of them together perhaps ? They've tried that before, remember ? They weren't succesful then, and Israel only got stronger since then, so they defenitely won't stand a chance these days. You're giving the Arab militairy forces way too much credit.

Heh heh, Israel is 'strong' because the USA feeds it its weeties every morning without foreign support, Israel is nothing. I think what Willow was trying to say is that if Israel crossed the line and used nuclear arms, the USA might not be able to effectively justify supporting them any longer. And once US support is gone it's goodnight Israel.

Granted, Israel has a very big friend. But Israel is no longer depending on foreign weaponry, like they used to. Today they make their own stuff, and they're good at it too. If the whole world would abandon them today, they still would be able to take care of themselves. Don't worry, they'll be fine.

$190 million from the US senate for just ONE anti-missile system. Whew. American funding pays for the vast majority of Israeli military supremecy in the region. Cut that funding and Israel is essentially under siege. The state of Israel could win short-term blitzkrieg engagements no problem, but in a drawn out conflict without foreign aid 'injections' it would simply be chipped away until nothing was left.
Make no mistake, Israel is an 'artificial' state, totally dependant on American goodwill to survive. At this point in history the American government's support for Israel is pretty much rock-solid, and so Israel can keep hangin' in there. But Israel seems to be rapidly losing face in the foreign media, whether that is due to foreign bias or not is irrelevant. If they lose their credibility they may well lose their support in the next few decades. Immediate survival is pointless if it guarantees your destruction in the long term.

Thing is, regardless of which American political party is in power, would ANY American politicians worth their salt be willing to give up the strategic goldmine that is Israel merely to satisfy public demands?

In military matter yes. Economical and political, no! Without the support of other countries Israel would starve to death both economically and politically.

If america will not give us arms i will be happy.
we have-tabor as a rifle amd mercava 4 as a tank. and we have "arrow" am system. do you need more? In military we will be still faaaaaar stronger than all arabs combined.
But economicaly, we will have tough times, and i do not think that they will agree with us.
Politically, we still have the marshall islands! And do not forget micronezia!
And if we will decide to take out the iranian "objects of interest", we will do it, rest assured. with american hands probably. they supply the palnes we supply the pilots. We do controll the world.

And the iranian soldiers will never be here. they must go through some country first, and its leaders know that then they will be the first to be atacked by us.
(/korgan)and besides all that (/korgan), if they nuke us, all the arabs here are dead, egypt, syria and jordan included.
