quote: Zbyszek, he asked for no spoilers... please respect that. Sir, I have also had remarkable difficulty adjusting to the Hong-Kong-Fooey atmosphere that Yoshimo presents. If they had given him a voice actor with a Japanese or Japanese-flavor accent to match the flavor of his name, that'd be one thing. (of course, how much realism do you want in a D&D setting? These are the folks who still think that longswords weigh ten pounds, and that the katana is inarguably the greatest sword in teh cosmos...) But of the two I have definitely found Jan to be more useful. I don't tend to do lots of sneaking, on the other hand: we have a very aggressive party. Also, if you're light on magic, he can work that angle. Using a crossbow vs. a bow is an interesting equipment issue, as well.

I'd keep yoshimo for now, because he is very usefull towards the end of cptr 2 and in cptr 3, but i'm now in the 4th, and am looking for a different theif, because to be honest, Yoshimo is crap, and is pissing me off. The rest of my party is Me (fighter) Minsc Korgan Jahira and Edwin. I'm thinking of doing a neutral/evil party, and therefore need to get rid of minsc sometime soon too. Any suggestions people?

Believe it or not, I have been through the game 3 times now (I Hate TOB, but I promise, I'll finish it one day, but I mean it's battle, battle, battle,) but I always use Nalia before I get Imoen back . Everybody always talks about how bad a thief she is, but really, she finds traps well, and I just have her keep Knock loaded. You can get the gloves of pickpocketing from the guy at the Copper Coronet, and you're set. Plus, when she gets Gesen's bow, she can really help. The one thing I can't figure out is, why doesn't she have Magic Missle, and why doesn't the Copper Coronet have it, either? Probably a plot by that fiend, Lehtinen. Oh well, you always get attacked on the way to her estate by the group, and one of them always has MM. Coincidence? I think not!

I actually think from a Roleplaying point of view this is a really tricky question. If I were to construct a party with the characters I liked the most in terms of personality in it I would have Jan and Yoshimo. How can anyone not like:
"Have you been hit on the head with a rock as of late? I am in the front?". and: "This reminds me of the turnip cellars...". On a gaming level I also find it hard to choose. Yoshimo as a theif rocks, Jan as a theif rocks slightly less. But Jan's mage skills more than outweigh his low levelling up. Neither of them are great in combat but Yoshimo can be dualled to a fighter I think. Might be worth a try methinks if you are worried about him not being all that useful. And Jan with a crossbow does give a handy edge to any combat. Gaaaah! I just can't decide!

I personally like jan more because sometimes he has a great sense of humor and he has theifing AND magic skills.
