I'm sure that there are plenty of people who would disagree, but my all time favorite fantasy books are by Raymond Feist. His books have nothing to do with the forgotten realms, but I think that he has created a world to rival and possibly surpass Faerun. Each of his books is a well thought out extension of his world and each adds more color and depth to characters that you get to know very well through the course of the story. He has gotten me to stay up till 6am when I had to be at work at 8am and not even realize it. Feist ranks with Tolkien and Salvatore in my opinion.
