What are the games must have items, particulalry in realation to my party, as i know some only work with certain classes/races?

My Party:

Human Paladin
Dwarven Fighter
Human Fighter/Cleric
hal-Elven Cleric/Mage
Halfling Theif
Elven Mage

I can't really remember all their alignments but they are mostly good.

Hmmmmm.....

There are definitely lots of good items in the game, so I'll go through your characters and list a couple of items each.

Human Paladin - Shield of the Revenant, Black Swan Armour or Bathed in Blood Armour

Dwarven Fighter - Celebrants Blade (a +4 axe...), either Black Swan Armour or Bathed in Blood armour (whichever one the paladin doesn't use)

Fighter/Cleric - Can't remember the name, but there's a nice ring that gives you an extra spell from 1st to 4th level and (if you can get it ) the Red Knight's Shield (or something, in with the Yuan-Ti)

Halfing Thief - Black Dragon Scale and a special thief hood that you can buy off Orrick.

Elven Mage - Robe of the Watcher or Robe of the Hand, Kontiks Ring of Wizardry, Edions Ring of Wizardry, Black Wolf Talisman

Well there you go. It's basic, and you only get most of the good stuff later on in the game. Just remember to keep all your characters well armoured and keep your mage protected at all times, until you get spells such as mirror image and stoneskin.

If you listed their weapon proficiencies, other folks might be able to give you some good advice on ideal weapons.

Cheers,

Moiraine Sedai

Its difficult to tell because many items are random... I would add:

Thief: Dagger+1 +5 thaco spinesomethging, later in HoW areas there is a club +5

Cleric-Mage: Elven chainmail which allows to cast mage spells while wearing it, the item is random though...

Paladin: Plain justice or something... nice sword

there is also a random item morningstar +3: the defender... gives +2AC and other protections

for the mage also a cyclone hat
