My character is a Paladin but i have just noticed that he has been reclassified as a fallen paladin. Despite having completed quests that have added to my rep i now have a rep of only 6. My theory is that that evil illusionist dude from the guildhall is bringing down my rep. Therefore should i remove him or is there another reason for my decreased reputation?

You're talking about Edwin? He's a conjurer, and not an illusionist.

AFAIK, Edwin only decreases your rep when he joins you, and not throughout the game. I don't know what have caused your rep to drop that much, other than if you are in or after chapter 5, you might have used your newly gained ability a tad too much.
A good way to raise the rep, is to donate money to temples. Atleast if you have alot of money.

Well, could be another reason too. This does happen to some, but you may have come across battles where peasants may get in the way and that, too, will drop your rep. But any other way than what Sir Exxon mentioned, I'm not too sure.

lol. I love the suggestion of your 'removing' Edwin from the party, in true role-playing fashion as well I suggest you keep playing your paladin as you are, its possible you may be able to reclaim your paladin status if you start roleplaying a GOOD paladin, instead of the twisted, evil-minded warrior you are becoming.

I am only on chapter 3, therefore i think i will remove edwin and try to find someone good aligned or even nuetral. I will try to find Nalia (abducted) or finjd Cernd again.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Aerie and Anomen are useful and sickeningly good npc's, you should try them. that is, of course, if you're not already using them.

Both are currently valued party members, Eerie more so.

Your party's Reputation is not influenced in the slightest by the Alignment of your various NPCs. (The one exception to this is Viconia, and that's because of a game script, not a game rule.) The people around you can't look at Edwin and see that he's Evil, and when you get right down to it, neither can you. They can only judge your party by what you say and do.

True story: A few months ago, somebody here (I've forgotten who) posted a story about their Dad's first game of BG2. Dad was playing a Paladin, and a few days into the game, Son idly glanced at Dad's Character Sheet while Dad was playing, and noticed that Dad had become a Fallen Paladin. Son asked how this had happened, and Dad said he didn't know....a few minutes later, Dad took his party into the Copper Coronet, and Son was astounded to see that there was almost nobody there. When Son asked about this, Dad replied, "Oh, there was this guy selling stuff there, but I thought his prices were way too high. So I killed him, hoping that he'd drop that stuff, but he didn't. And then everybody turned red, so I killed them too."
After picking himself up off the floor, Son gave his father a lesson about roleplaying a Paladin.

So, Ironbar--a few questions.....
 • Have you EVER caused an Innocent character to die, however indirectly? Don't. If a party member gets Confused and beans some kid over the head, it's your fault. If a Commoner walks right into your Cloudkill, it's your fault. If an enemy Mage that you Charmed kills a Peasant with a Skull Trap, it's your fault. If somebody casts a Lightning Bolt at you, and it bounces off your Spell Turning (or whatever) and fries a Nobleman, it's your fault. Killing innocents (pretty much anybody not holding a weapon is classified as Innocent) is the #1 fastest way to lose Reputation. This is why non-damaging spells, such as Stinking Cloud, are so popular to use in town, because they don't harm innocents, or even turn them Hostile. (Although if somebody cast a spell on me, that made me fall to the ground, retching and puking my guts out from a fetal position, I'd certainly be hostile.)
 • Have you even been caught stealing? Don't. If somebody catches you trying to Pickpocket them, they'll turn Hostile, and so will everyone who saw it. Before you know it, your party members have obeyed their AI scripts to attack Hostile creatures, and before you know it, you've killed an Innocent. Getting caught shoplifting will also ding your Rep, as will getting caught opening locked containers in people's homes.
 • Have you been to the Windspear Hills yet?

So far i have only killed people that i have been told to kill in quests. However, i have killed people in town but only because they were red when i got there. Also, i have never stolen anything from shops but i have been to the windspear hills but i do not see how that could effect my reputation. I saved Viconia but never allowed her to join my party. Could this be responsible for my drop in reputation?

I think I got it. Ironbar, you said that you've been to Windspear so I'm assuming that you fought the Illusioned Paladins of the Order right? Did you get done talking to Garrison, or ever find out from him that your name has been cleared at the House of the Order? If not, then since the run in with the Paladins may have branded you as a "Fallen Paladin" because you didn't get done talking to Garrison.
