I have a couple questions on rep. I know it represents how well people like you and that a higher rep. will get you better prices in stores. What is the highest your rep can go? I'm in chapter 3 and my rep is either a 15 or 16. I was also wondering if theres an underworld to BG/TOSC where a bad rep would be better than a good one? thanks

The highest rep will go is 20. With 20 rep and a high charisma character wearing Algernon's cloak doing your buying for you at the stores the savings is dramatic. In addition to increasing rep through performing certain quests, making contributions at temples can increase your rep also.
Your question about a black market is a great one. There should have been exactly that. But, no, unfortuantely the only benefit of low rep is that it boosts the morale of evil aligned characters. Which is logically absurd. Due to their low rep prices go sky high for them. They're evil not stupid! Why should they be happy about paying through the nose for everything?

It would be really cool if there was an "underworld" as you call it, with a black market and all, there could be so many sub-quests, assaninations etc. And if you were a good character then you couldnt go there else you would be attacked quite often.

That is the sort of thing good DMs of NwN games will come up with, actually. Having a thieve's quarter to sell stolen goods, hire out as a thief, spy, or assassin, etc.

Does DSOTSC have an underworld to it? I want to make an evil party, but I'm worried that it will be impossable cause of a bad rep. Anyone want to offer some advice? BTW, killed a female drow a few days ago, I figured that she might go good in an evil party, What is her class, is she any good to play, well assuming that she's evil lol.

quote: Advice on playing evil: just because you're evil doesn't mean you're dumb- you don't need to have a bad reputation to be evil. Just look at the Easter Bunni as an example. He's pure evil and will eat your heart as soon as sniff you, yet he portrays himself as a friendly, lovable, warm-n-fuzzy bunni wabbit that brings you gifts. He's a genius and I fear him greatly. That drow was Viconia, an NPC that can join your party. She's a cleric (the best in the game when factoring in sound set, blah, blah, blah and et cetera and the rest and stuff and junk and things and whatnot, IMO), and is she ever evil. If you want to have an evil party, Viconia is a good choice.

Hmm, mayhaps Xzar was onto something, Katherine: "I know dragons with feet like rabbits, tis true I swear!"
![]() Ditto what Katherine said. I'm playing an evil party right now and I've been kind of disappointed at how the game is so heavily weighted toward good play. The only benefit of evil play --> low rep is that it raises the morale of evil characters; which is silly because as rep drops prices rise, so they are having a tougher time of it financially. Also, if you choose the anti-social responses then often you will not be offered quests. I think the trick to having a decent time playing evil is to save a lot/reload as needed and test out what you can get away with without your rep suffering too much for it. That is, be scroundrels but still try to get rep to 17 and maintain it thereabouts (if it goes to 18 evil NPCs will leave). There are things you can do that only evil characters should do--killing Oublek for example--that can be done without a loss to rep. From a roleplay perspective, finding that sort of thing is the challenge. Dark Side of the Sword Coast doesn't favor evil play. [ 02-02-2002: Message edited by: Lemernis ]
