You might be right. Haven't seen or heard anything about familiars. They were funny. Well just have to wait for BGII.
Thanks anyway!! |

There is surely no familiars as there is in BG2.

You could probably build them, but I would imagine that it is a lot of work. Someone might have tried it though.

I assume you are correct pritchke. It could be something like a permanently "summoned" entity; changes the parameters (as if it was an item) might yield some results, but it isn't something I've really explored. Special abilities shouldn't be too hard to establish I would have thought. I'm sure its possible in the main. Whether it would be of any use remains to be seen.

I believe that the dynamics of BG1 are such that the only way to have an "animal companion" are to either have the beast take up a slot as one of your party members, or to have it be an item, such as Boo. The game will not support "Item turns into creature and then back again."

I believe you are correct sixOfspades although the animal doesn't nessacerily have to take up a spot. It could just be similar to a summoned creature were you don't have access to any of its abilities only to attack, or move it, for example maybe a bear called Grunt, I think DSotSC has a character that has his own dog. Having it take up a slot though is interesting because this would enable you to give it abilities that you can control or even carry items for you. Basically you could have your own mule.
