Well know that I know. Playing Aerie just got a whole lot simpler

For a mage darts can be very useful - 3 APR as opposed to 1 APR with a sling (and if you have ToB there is the crimson dart +3 )

Quick spell slots are great !! Not to mention they add some more 'flair' to your screen display. And saving clicks means less RSI means longer playing ability for you. In short: more XP for you, my friend...

Does everyone but me (and cerandil) have some strange spacebar-related speed handicap? In my last game, I got Aerie up to Level 22 or so on her Mage half (she'd just hit Level 25 on her Cleric half), and I was never so much as tempted to assign a single hotkey or Quick Spell. But I would have liked to have been able to give her the Runehammer and Storm Star, alongside her existing Quick Weapons of Crom Faeyr and whatever Sling she had. I assure you, a Stonekin cast via Pause-scroll-scroll-scroll-click-Unpause is just as life-preserving and EXP-earning as "Oh crap, Stoneskin's gone, better cast another where's that hotkey is it F7? no that's Greater Malison so now I've got to run away for a round until I can cast again."

Unlike most players( not referring to you, Six ), my spellcasters tend to have a wide variety of spells. I also have a standard set of opening spells to cast( usually level 7 and above).

Now... it is true that I can just pause and clickity-click-click all the way to the right of my spellbook to cast those spells... but it gets tedious after a while.

My opening spells are standard, so having them in the Quick Spell slots saves me time and preserves my sanity from having to scroll through my spellbook over and over again.

For spellcaster fans like me, who mainly use spellcasters all the time, the Quick Spell slots are truly divine. More so since I play BG2 with the AI turned off, so I have to cast each spell individually. You may come to appreciate these slots more when you play with a party that contains 2 Mages, 1 Cleric/Mage, and 1 Druid.

I prefer to spend more time casting my spells than looking for my spells.

Quick spells can be also be cast while paused. It just saves you to pain of scrolling thru you spellbook. That's all there is to it.

And as for spacebar-related speed handicaps, I have another: sometimes my left thumb spasms and accidentally I press spacebar twice, thus getting beaten down. Does anyone else have this problem? Surely we can get our own forum about The Community of Finger-handicaps here at Ironworks ......

My fights tend to look something like this: pause-unpause-pause-unpause-autopause:cast spell-unpause-pause-unpause-pause-unpause-autopause:round end-unpause-autopause:target gone.

Since I've discovered the quickspell slots, the only thing I use them for is stoneskin. No more pause-scroll-scroll-scroll-clicking for four characters after every rest
