Re: Wife got Covid-19..... I probably got it too... (we're ok though--so far)
I'm fully vaccinated now, I got my 2nd Moderna shot here in Boston 2 weeks ago. Finally had all our restrictions dropped because over 50% of the population in MA is fully vaccinated.
My dad also got his first AstraZeneca shot in Sydney this week. My mum still doesn't want to get vaccinated and my sister is waiting.
There's a huge amount of vaccine hesitancy in Australia, probably partly because a) they haven't really had Covid touch the country so people don't want to get vaccinated for a disease that isn't currently in the country and they want to wait till those of us in other countries suffer some side effect first; and b) they've made a balls up of the rollout and said that Pfizer should be the preferred vaccine for 50 and under due to the (extremely low, like 1 in a million) chance of blood clots from the AZ vaccine for younger people. So it made it sound like the AZ is an inferior vaccine and so everyone wants the Pfizer but you don't get to choose in Australia (and they don't have enough supply of the Pfizer anyway).
Right now Australia doesn't plan to reopen its borders for at least another year, so even if you are a citizen it's very difficult to get a ticket to enter since they are restricting # of arrivals into the airports, and nobody can leave because you need an exemption from the government.
Hope everyone is keeping safe!
