I'm looking for a really good bow in BGII also a really good long sword... could one of you guys tell me what the best is for each, and where i could find each of them in the game.

welcome to Ironworks

i plead with you to play through the game without knowing where things are at least for the first time - i can tell you that's there's no shortage of really good bows and long swords some of which are easily available in shops

if you really, really want to know then reply asking to be 'spoiled' and someone will let you know

(someone might choose to let you know anyway of course)

The best longsword can be found by talking to someone in the city gates, and doing stuff. The best bow cannot be had legitimately until Chapter 6.

The best bows before Chap 6 (Gesen/Mana) must be either Tansheron (+3, no ammo) or Tuigan (+1, 3 attacks). I am not telling you where to look, just that once you have found these there is no need to look any further.
There is a good blade for sale called Blades of the Roses. A certain sword near the gates will help you greatly against a specific type of opponents.

well - you can't be too careful . . .

here you go:

these things can have their place i reckon - i've just played a figher/thief though BG1 who has a character concept that's cumulating in a certain longsword only available right at the end of SoA - have fun

The best bow I found was something calld the "Elven Court Bow", though I can't for the life of me recall where I found it. I'm well into the game, so it could have been any number of places. In the hands of someone like Minsc, it can really pummel wizards

The one in D'Arnise hold behind the statues in the golem room? Yeah it's a nice bow. Not over the top, but nice. Mana, Gesen, Tuigan and Tansheron are all better IMHO
