Burning Hands is not a touch spell.

Technically, you're right. Range is listed as "0," not touch. However, anything that requires you to walk close enough for the enemy to "touch" the mage I consider "touch range." Additionally, even though Burning Hands' cast time is 1, the mage must stay put until it completely finishes casting, which puts him in danger. (Unless I'm thinking IWD here.) I just don't like it. yes but dont forget the spell is very quick (but nowhere near as good as magic missile. You dont even get chromatic orb which is useful in the latter levels

I noted the cast time was 1. However, I may have been unclear before when I further noted you must wait until Burning Hands competely finishes before moving again, which is about two seconds in addition to the cast time of 1. Two seconds is not exactly "very quick," and that much time in melee range is dangerous for mages (which is why I'm not fond of the spell).

Yes, that's what "He cannot cast Invokations/Evocations" implies. I covered Xan's drawbacks two posts ago. The best you can do is substitute. (Or, others noted, cast opposition spells from Wands/Scrolls.) I'm not sure what point you're trying to make now; the drawbacks have already been outlined. If you don't like the substitutions, don't play Enchanters.

It would definitely be a matter of personal preference; each has his own problems, but then they have their own benefits. It would probably depend upon the alignment of the other characters in the party, but I love Edwin, accent, attitude and all.

Cheers,

The game seems to more-or-less try to give you a NPC close to your own clvl. As such, waiting to pick up Edwin will result in an "older" Eddie with more spell slots and HPs, but nothing you couldn't have gotten leveling him yourself.

I explained that. Re-read: The game seems to more-or-less try to give you a NPC close to your own clvl. As such, waiting to pick up Edwin will result in an "older" Eddie... (Clvl being common notation for "character level" in my neck of the woods.)

She is better looking than Xan and Edwin

I once considered to have a male PC and a harem of 5 female NPCs following me around ....but the power gamer inside me won: Minsc, Coran and other male NPCs are simply too good to kick out of your party
