Sorry, but the film actually is not mainly about smoking. It's just that I found the first quote so damn funny that I had to post it.
As another hint I'll say that the lead roles are played by a famous French and a famous American actress (who are somking hot by the way, or at least were when the film was made )

<font color=plum>Nobody seems to have a clue about the current quotes. Would you mind if a couple of others added new quotes? Or can you just tell us the answer to your current one and give us some new quotes yourself.

Like you, I really don't want to see this thread die again, and the best way to avoid that is to have a LOT of quotes available for guesses at any one time (somewhere between 3-5 different quotes would be best, I think).

<font color=plum>By jove, I think I've got it. I haven't seen the movie and don't remember the name of it, but I just remembered seeing this particular scene on Entertainment Tonight a couple of weeks ago.

It is the movie about a German who is paralyzed from the neck down and wishes to end his life, but the gov't won't let him. Although paralyzed, he has actually written 3 books (or more) from his bed using his mouth to hold the pen.

Those are the highlights I remember of the film - and the fact that is based on a true story. The "hero" of the movie is real. So is his struggle to be allowed to end his life on his terms.

Is that good enough to get the prize???</font>

Although you're guess is wrong Cerek I entitle you to post a new green quote just because your description of "whatever movie that is" is so heart-breaking
The quotes actually were from Diabolique (the 1996 remake with Sharon Stone and Isabel Adjani).

Barry the Sprout still has to confirm the guess on the red quote and maybe give some tips on the white one.
Meanwhile I'll add a

<font color=plum>Ah well. I just happened to remember seeing that particular scene on the Entertainment Tonight show while driving home from work today. The German "hero" has a female friend (don't know if it was a girlfriend, fiance', spouse, or just a family friend). But in one scene, she brings his writing supplies to him and sits down beside him on the bed. She is smoking and he asks her to give him the cigarette. She looked at him with some surprise, since he apparantly was not a regular smoker. After placing the cigarette in his mouth, she says something to the effect that smoking kills and he answers "Not reliably".

Just thought it was too much of a coincidence that the same line would be in two different movies.</font>
