Now I'm sure youve guys have all heard of the text RPGs you can play online named "Forbidden Realms" and theres other but thats the one my boyfriend tried to get me to play...and it gave me a HEADACHE! I mean when u battle somthing the words just fly off the screen almost to fast to read. The only thing i really liked was the things you could emote :"Verloren poures herself a big frosty glass of ale. Yum!" hehe. But the point of this topic is, for anyone who plays the text games, isnt it hard if ur so used to BG? cause it drove me nuts!

Heh heh. My only real experience with text games was back when Zork came out and we had Comm 16's. They were great then, but heck, there were no pc vid games then, heh heh. I still love reading books because we can picture everything with our imaginations. But I would have a hard time now with a text game when we have so much available today.

There are some online text game where there is no monsters to fight. I think those are the best.

Since we are talking about text games, does anyone know a program that would allow me to create a text game? (not a online game, or course)

I know there used to be some, but I can't find them anymore.

all these edits are driving me nuts my keyboard is such a pos and always leaves out letters so everything is all full of typos

The only online text game that I have played was Shadowmere, but it was more like a text version of AOE with D&D characteristics. I got tired of it though because there were so many porblems with the algorhythms and number crunching, so I stopped playing it.
I have no idea either Luvian, sorry.

My dear, I have been playing an online text based RPG called Native Lands, for maybe 5 months now, and yes, it was very difficult for the first week or so, all the words scrolling faster than I could read, all sorts of words in different colors.. it was a nightmare, BUT, soon I learned that about 3/4 of the words I didn't need to read, and I could catch the key words, I didn't even need to read the discriptions for rooms, and soon enough I was on my way to be quite proficient, so do not get discouraged at first, like everything in life, it just takes a little time

Hmm... I've been playing MUDs (as far as I can tell, that's what you're referring to... translates as Multi-User Domain or Multi-User Dungeon) for a while now... few years, actually... if you find one that's interesting, you get used to the text pretty quickly (I did, anyway... *shrug*)... hmm... well, as long as we're talking about them, "Ye shall all go to this site, for it chall be a great MUD, and lo, I canst not speak like this, for, verily, I doth sound stupid..." *grin* A while ago, I'd have been able to suggest a great MUD for you all to try playing that was already open and all... thing is, it's horrible now, so no comments but that... other than to say that they can be quite fun, should you find a good one. *shrug* *tip* Hmm... a question for you, Stile-type-person... what's this fancy Native Lands MUD like? This could be interesting...

The best text-based game I have played so far is not a typical MUD because it has a graphical interface. Look up a game called Archmage. It's a neat pseudo realtime strategy that is totally free and requires no downloads; there's guilds and allies and lots of WAR. Now that I am finished being a commercial...

I've played Archmage... I found it fun for a while, but then it ended up getting very repetetive and boring... *shrug* Got to be in the 70s on Blitz Non-Guild for a while, but then just sort of stopped playing... *shrug* It's not too bad, I suppose, but I prefer MUDs.

Haha, If you liked Archmage, go to games.swirve.com/utopia/ and you'll find an even better game

As for Native Lands. It has 100's of unique areas, each can be up to 100 screens.. sometimes more I'm sure, I could never explore the whole thing, some of them are tributes to the best RPG's like FF3, others are from the imagination of the creator, there are 12 classes I think and 15 races to choose from. Many types of equipment, to be worn on I think 15 points of the body. There are quests, cults, and the long sought Hero status (hero's are 200th lvl) and the moderators are very active. You may become married to another MUDer in this and there are so many monster types I could never count them all. A quite extensive help section broken down in an easy to access form. Also full of nice players, eager to help the newbies. I suggest downloading GMUD before you attempt to play, because Hyperterminal is evil. The IP addy for Native Lands is 207.207.31.2 on port 1234. Be forewarned that if you use AOL, you might not be able to play... as many AOL IPs have been blocked, as AOL is the MAIN source for users who degrade the experience of the game
