Well John, I do tend to lean more towards the liberal side so if you want to think of me as a Yankee Democrat - feel free!

I wonder how many kids (and adults) bought Air Jordans because og Micheal Jordan's name. I'm not so sure that a majority of people buy stuff because it's good or because a big star tells them to.

If they don't, it's odd that the media paints us that way.

One of my favorite actors is Harrison Ford. If he sold out(and I do believe endorsing products is selling out)and started hawking Chock Full O' Nuts coffee, I wouldn't just start buying it. I prefer Maxwell House. Now if there was a sale and the price was low, I'd buy a can of CFON coffee. If liked it, I might switch. But not because of Ford. I think the media really thinks we are just a bunch of lemmings!

The Media does, but to a greater extent it's Madison Ave. that thinks we're lemmings. It's one of the reasons I got out of advertising and went into screenprinting T-shirts. Now I sell statments and feelings to people that want to buy statments and feelings, not to people that want to buy coffee. As one of my instructors in art school used to say "it's all BS and poetry".

I Ignore all celebrity endorsements unless I know for a fact that the person uses the items...such as say Ted Nugent advertising Archery Equipment. I still wont buy something endorsed by a celebrity unless I have a need for the item as well It has to have quality and be durable...not like Michael Jordan using Nike, I mean he doesnt wear off the shelf Nike's he has specially fabricated high quality work, not the stuff you and I could buy.

No kidding about the media!
Have you seen the Michael Jordan commercial where he brings in a new style of Hanes underwear into the locker room every week and the guys there all have the same ones the next week? Its like he doesn't even work out, he just goes in, pulls the underwear out, makes sure they all see it, tucks them back in his gym bag and leaves!
That's insulting if you ask me.

Teens and young people are influenced by the media though, I mean look at the young executives and the young executive-wannabes....they wear Dokkers.
Teen sexy & glamourous? Calvin Clein
Gay? Tommy
Its all over and until people start thinking for themselves, it'll never end...but why should they when they have the media to tell them what to do and what to buy? (insert hurl here lol)

I never buy things based on a celebrity's backing. I definitely will go for a "great product."
