hmm well apparently my family was driven out of Ireland under religious persecution, then after living in Scotland for a while, was driven out of there to. I guess I have to have some Celtic blood in me.

I can't help but think of Patrick Stewart on SNL, in the skit, with the shop "All things Scottish" Where "if it isn't Scottis, it crrrap!"

I'm mostly Scottish, with a touch of Eastern Cherokee Indian for flavor. Mom's parents emigrated from Glasgow in 1911. We think Grandma was pregnant but not married yet, so she & my Great-grandparents left the country, but Grandpa did the right thing & followed her. My grandmother's maiden name was MacPhee -- the MacPhee (or MacFie) clan history goes back to the 1200s, but they were broken in the late 1400s when they supported a losing revolt. They weren't recognized as a clan again until 1982.

My family name, Peterson, is a "sept" of clan MacLaren, but I haven't traced the lineage back yet. A sept is a family that pledges allegiance to a clan, usually because they live nearby, & receives protection in return. Some clans have dozens of septs.

On Dad's side, his mother was a Pinkerton. Her grandfather and granduncle, William and Alan Pinkerton, came from Scotland in the 1830s. Alan founded the Pinkerton Detective Agency -- maybe you've heard of it (no, none of that money made it to my side of the family ).

Anybody here enjoy celtic music? There's a group called Clandestine I like. Lead singer plays acoustic guitar, there's an electric fiddle, percussionist with several types of drums, and a piper. First heard them at the Scottish Highland Games in Orlando -- 3rd week in January if you live nearby...

Our family tree begins with Henry VIII. Turns out one of his bastard sons that he had with a commoner started our family. It's kinda interesting to see it unfold over the ages.

IIRC from what my Dad's mother told me when I was young, I'm part Welsh (her maiden name is Glenn), but I've not had a chance to talk with my aunt who's researching that side of the family.

My Mom's side has Scottish ties, but, again, I'd have to consult the geneology research of *another* aunt to get the names. She started on the Johnson line which is English, but I think she's followed back a couple of the Scottish ones, as well. This all being done over the last couple of years and me not having time to go visit with extended family has me hazy on the details.

Nothing like a caber toss to wake you up in the morning!

I have a bit of Irish and Scottish decent. The one that gets me (and I don't have a name but I can look it up) is an ancestor of mine in Ireland. He was mayor of a small town and ripped off everyone in it. He was quite the thief, he was. It wouldn't surprise me if someone killed the bloke.

Ah well. We can't all be illustrious leaders.
