I thought the US had sent armies to help philipines combat Abu Sayyafs. what happen? didn't they finish them all?

actually, you should try and understand the philippine history, centuries ago, we have been colonized by the spanish for nealy 500 years.. the americans for 40+ years plus the japanese (although breif and terrifying). so when it comes to americans fighting the abu sayyafs, the philippines (in general) feels threatened because our soverignty is the line therefor the americans who came before were just "supporting" our military (which sucks) in helping tracking down the terror group by spy plane, tactical training and stuff. we value independence because we had none in the past. we only have less than 100 years of independence so far.

personally, i feel that my governemnt is so inadequete especially the politicians so are talking over nothing.. i mean why should we reject help who can remove these terror groups who have been plaguing the philippines for decades all because of our philippine independence.. sigh

maybe it's a pride thing. getting help from outside means one is incapable of dealing his own problem. Asians are very sensitive to losing face.

ps. I know it's hard to fully eradicate such problems. as the chinese would say " to kill a weed to you to kill off the root first ".
