100% would be sufficient in Set Traps and Detect Illusions.

125% will suffice for Detect/Disarm Traps, Lockpicking, and Pickpocketing; since the game imposes penalties on several occasions.

Hide in Shadows is probably the biggest red herring when it comes to Thieving Skills. Given the formula of Stealth for a Thief, you have no need to pump points into HiS AT ALL.

Stealth = (Move Silently + Hide in Shadows) / 2

I personally went to conduct a test somewhere in... 2001 or 2002 IIRC, and it was in ToB that I conducted the test. The initial findings( which I read) were from the( now defunct) BlackIsle Boards( I learnt a lot of things from there).

It is alright to have 0% in HiS, so long as you have 200% in MS, so just pump everything into MS if you want to Stealth.

I've found (by testing) in the Macintosh version of TOB that the Hide in Shadows _is_ necessary. When I pumped just MS I was unable to go into stealth mode. Apparently they changed/fixed the stealth equation.

In the Macintosh version of BGII (i.e. without TOB) - the equation you give does seem to hold.

@Dundee and User: Don't worry guys, I also thought that bards had 0% in Set Traps and that it didn't affect HLAs. Yaga Shuras will be Yaga Shuras, eh? ^^

Well, I don't use Macs.

I will keep this Mac quirk in mind though.
