Personally, I prefer to keep the scrolls on the main character. That way they take up only one slot, and since the main character will never get turned to stone (because then you lose and have to reload, so it never really happened

i have never yet in any game used scroll of petrification protection
1) you can scribe for wizards the spell without needing the scroll 2) use my tactics listed above and you'll never have any problems with basilisks anyway always scout and then you know what dangers to face (ring of invisiblity bought from the inn in ulgoths beard is soooooo useful for this) |

potions of mirrored eyes are incredibly useful as well (basilisks aren't the only creatures in the game that use gaze attacks) as is the mage spell protection from petrification (I find it more useful than the protection scroll)

Doesn't the ring of invisibility have a limited number of charges though?

I'd just like to say that prevention is better than needing a cure, there are so many ways to avoid petrification that you ought not to get caught.
And another thing. You know that person on the Basilisk map who has been turned to stone - why does she sometime turn hostile, I like to try and free her if I'm a good guy, but it's not always possible.

A character *will* be lost forever if he is stoned on a journey screen and nobody can restore him before you leave it.

But, since you can't return to Waylay areas, I suggest you cheat. Make you're you've got your cheat codes available, and while you're still in the Waylay area, press either X or L to get the area number (ARxxxx). Now go buy a StF scroll as normal, and once you've got it, say CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("ARxxxx") And you're there. Use the Scroll, re-recruit your friend, and head for a tavern to drink off the effects of what could have been the permanent loss of a valuable party member.

I just want to be clear about this, Six . . . Are you saying that you've had a member of your party petrified, by a basilisk or something, in a waylay spot, then were able to restore them to normal using the method you described? That's pretty scary if they hit you with basilisks in waylay spots, but I would just load the save I did before zoning out if that happened to me. I'm not using any cheat codes, but am using some aspects of the Character Editor to make the game more survivable. I'm not as fearful of petrification as I was when I started this thread, having done the "basilisk country" sector with no problem. Thanks to the Editor, Dynaheir carries a 12-hour Protection from Petrification scroll with 10,000 charges on it, but I wouldn't bother equipping this and having her cast it on everybody before zoning out of every sector, so, if we get waylaid by basilisks, I'll have to show them my true mettle, and, if I fail, reload.
