If you have the item upgrade (IMO, A near ESSENTIAL mod), CF CAN be upgraded to +5.

I consider the Item Upgrade mod not part of the actual game and usually disregard it when asked what are the best items. It is tempting, but I have never downloaded it.

Right, I was mixing Hindo's Doom and Spectral Brand. Thank you for correcting me.

Yes, perhaps so. Yes, I'd say take Dak'kons Zerth's Blade, because of the AC-bonus. YOu'll need it, since Kensai's cant wear armour.

Dual-wielding katanas... That thought is soooo bloody sick... It gives me a little oak, truth to tell. I might have to make a kensai, and play with that...

And to the fella who tried to say that two-handed swords were cooler, would that be because they're slower, heavier, and require twice the hands to do the same damage? They might be a bit messier, and I guess that could be cooler, but a katana is the ultimate in swords, hands down.

Now, anyone know where I could find a magical shotgun?

That fella would be me.
I find Two-Handed Swords cooler because they are huge. Katana's are like small butterknives compared. The bigger Two-Handed Swords also have a bigger damage-base (1d12), while Katana's sticks to 1d10 all the time. There is also many more enchanted Two-Handed Swords then Katanas. The only real good Katana I can think of, is Celestial Fury, while Two-Handed Swords have Carsomyr, Gram the Sword of Grief (ToB), Psions Blade (ToB), etc.
The only good thing about Katanas is that you can dual-wield them.

Hmmmm Exxon...
Right of the top of my head I can think of Celestial Fury+3, Hindos Doom+3 and Dak´kons Zerth Blade+2...of course there are the Malakar +2 +2AC
But You´re right about the amount of magical items compared respectively between 2handed and katanas!

Highly enchanted Katanas:
Hindo's Doom +3/+4
Celestial Fury +3
Katana +3

Highly enchanted Two-Handed Swords:
Carsomyr +5/+6
Warblade +4
Gram the Sword of Grief +5/+5
Soulreaver +4
Psion's Blade +5
Lilarcor +3

From the top of my head.
Four Katanas over +3 in enchantment, eight Two-Handed Swords. Speaks pretty much for itself.

Actually, from a powergaming perspective, Flails would be the best choice for a Kensai.
The more times a Kensai strikes in a round, the more efficient he is.
That is obvious - a Kensai is no tank, so in order to survive, he needs to kill his enemies before they kill him.
So this leads us to Dual Wielding.

Now, why Flails?
A Kensai WILL get hit.
A lot.
So AC is almost nothing - you'll get hit either way.
Damage Resistance, on the other hand, is everything.
The only weapon that gives Damage Resistance is the Defender of Easthaven - a Flail.
It gives 20% Damage Resistance and +1 AC.
We'll put him in the off hand.

On the right hand we want something really damaging.
We want something can lower the opponent attack rate so we'll get hit less.
We want something with elemental damage so we can hit Stoneskinned mages.
We want the Flail of Ages.

But since a Kensai is a sword saint and all...
