I can't compete with people that can answer 10 questions in 35 seconds, or even double that. English is my second language, and I'm not a fast reader. ..course if it were German, I'd be even slower!

So we need Bungleau to set up the IW quiz (french version)?

You're absolutely right, Variol. As Henry Ford said over 100 years ago, if you think you can or think you can't, you're absolutely correct.

However, I can tell you that when I first started playing, I thought those 35 second times were ridiculous... cheating, even. As I played more, I got better at it, and I've occasionally broken the 40 second barrier. I also still break the 100 second barrier on occasion, too... it goes both ways

This is part of what Olorin was discussing when he talked about finding a way to handicap those folks who generally run way out ahead of the pack. Do you have some suggestions on what we can do to make it more reasonable?

Et malheureusement, UV, je n'ai pas autant de connaissances inutiles pour faire un petit examen ici...

It would be nice to take the time factor out of it, but then it does open the way for cheating.

It might be better for the program to detect who the stronger players are and make their questions harder. That way, there could be tiers of winners. Kind of beginner, intermediate, advanced etc.

That's about the only other way I could see it. And if you're the winner of a certain tier, you automatically get bumped up. Others could have a choice to challenge themselves.
Kind of like when you start that new RPG. It takes time to get the keys down.

Well, I certainly didn't start out being able to do the quiz in 35 seconds. My first several months, I was happy if I could make it to the top five, and figured I'd never be able to catch the likes of Aelia and Bungleau.

I worked on improving my speed--turning off TV/radio before I started, focusing on my skimming skills, etc. It's still a great day if I keep it under 45 sec and don't miss any.

For me, part of the speed is knowing what kind of questions I have to guess on. If it's asking for a musician or sports figure, I know to just scan the list of answers, pick the name (if any) that seems the most famous and move on.

Being frowned upon would be putting it mildly......
