Smiley That never happened before!

Because I've come back to the game after a long time away I think I know what to expect, but every now and again something unexpected comes along which calls for a re-think. Of coarse some of it is down to installing Tutu which makes subtle changes to the gameplay.

So I'm down in the lower reaches of Durlags Tower with my party of weaklings; Jaheria got the boot and I brought in some 'Gnome Power' instead.

Spoilers

First I was fighting the 4 Warders, so I approached while in sanctuary and to my surprise 'Avarice' and 'Pride' were bashing lumps out of each other. I know Midgets can get a bit grumpy but they were getting stuck into each other. Maybe the Cloudkill had something to do with it.
Then I moved on down and started messing with the Wyverns. I'm too weak to win in a fair fight and getting help is a bit unsporting. But I remembered I once beat them by getting them stuck in the doorway and slowing killing them with 2-handed weapons. So I tried it and the new 'size reduced' Wyverns came straight through the door and killed everyone. Not to be outdone I reloaded and lured them to the edge of the fireball pit and roasted them on the spot.
But somethings never change and cheating at chess is one of life's pleasures. The mayhem caused by running around the chessboard after taking potions of Invisibility and Absorption is so much fun.

So on we go deeper into trouble and maybe more surprises to come.

And so we come to the Demonknight- this is always an interesting fight because you never quite know if something unexpected is going to happen.

My party of weaklings were taking a beating because we are all magic users and he has very good Resistance and Saving Throws. So after countless reloads it happened; his luck ran out.

I haven't used any summoned monsters throughout the game other than the two I have access to - Branwen can summon a Skeleton and Tiax can summon a Ghast. So this pair were sent into battle against the mighty Demonknight while we all stood back and watched. And the underdogs came out on top because the DK failed his saving throw and was 'held' by the Ghast. How cool is that? So those two are left as the guardians of the Tower, while we move on to the next challenge.

Maybe there will be more Tales of the Unexpected.

Not sure if anyone reads this but I reached the end of the game and a couple more unusual things happened along the way.
.

Spoilers again
.
.
.
Well I was in the Thieves Maze and for no particular reason I chose to let my Familiar out for some exercise, he'd been cooped up in the pack for ages. As he was introduced onto the screen there was not much room so something had to be displaced and as a result my character was shifted right through the wall into the adjacent passageway! So now the main party was in the middle of the Maze and my weak little mage was left stranded and alone. Fortunately he was quite near the exit and dodged the last few enemies but that was a really strange thing to happen.

And then on to the final fight where I was completely out of my depth. I've done the end game many times before but the Tutu version is much much harder for a weak party of spell-casters with very limited resources. After dozens of reloads I found a few spells that worked and set out to exploit my advantage of getting in the first attack. I moved forward and cast Confusion into the space ahead - and to my surprise a fight broke out which finished the game without me having to lift a finger. Ah the power of Magic and the proof of the theory: "If you reload enough times you might get lucky."

I've had the familiar one happen before. It is a bit annoying if you wind up in a crowd of enemies.

Yes that would be a bit unfortunate. Oh and just for the record that was 'Chaos' that won the final battle rather than 'Confusion' because you can cast it blind into an area.

Some other strange things can happen because people are now allowed to go through doors. I found the Bartender from the Red Sheaf in the street and asked him for a room for the night. But the really weird one was when one of the Maulers from the 'bar fight' ran off into the street. When I went to find him he hid in the sewers. When I followed him he went back to the street and we played hide and seek in-and-out of the sewers for a while until I finally got him.

I'm still finding that strange things happen because people leave through the exit in the middle of a fight. I guess my fondness for Chaos & Confusion make it worse. I just did the Chess Game and twice the result came out wrong because some chess pieces were down the next corridor. I killed everything on the board but the King had left, then I killed everyone including the King only to get ambushed as I reached the other side of the door.
It's one thing about Tutu that I don't really care for.
