what is the purpose of all the miscilanious items in spellgrade or the place when you first meet irenicous, do you really need like the mirror and glass of water or the gold ring? also what other items are there that are important?

The items are part of a puzzle. In the room where you found these things match the items to the riddle each of the statues asks. Correctly give the statues the items and win a prize.

It is indeed Spellhold, but the part where Jamalez currently is is the ''Gauntlet'' IIRC this is Bodhi's personal maze beneath Spellhold.
