Okay I imported my thief Darrow from BG1 into BG2. He is now a thief when would it be right to dual him into a fighter?

An Alignment Question. What if my character was the type of character that is mercieless to his enimies and rarely allows mercy to his foe. But to his friends he would do everything in his power to protect them and desires power. He would only work if there is a suitable reward. He usually keeps to his word but breaks it only if it would cause harm to a commoner or children or any who are good alignments. Darrow rarely breaks this type of code. But doesn't usually apply for nobolity. Or any high class such as an goverment offical.

He is honrable and always enjoys battle against his advesaries. And would kill his foes at every opprtunity only if he can get away with it.

So uh what alignment should I make him have?

I think that level 11 or 12 would be a good dualling level, but that's completely up to you. On the matter of alignment, I suggest Chaotic Good, since that seems to fit your personality the best.

Depends on what kit you've chosen for him, and whether or not you have ToB. I suggest level 13 for vanilla (no kit) thieves, bounty hunters, and assassins, to take advantage of x5 backstab, and level 15 for swashbucklers, for the -3 AC and THAC0 and +3 damage bonus. If you have ToB, I suggest level 13 for vanilla, level 16 for bounty hunters (take advantage of a new trap skill), level 17 for assassins (x6 backstab), and level 15 for swashbucklers.

I would say True Neutral or Chaotic Neutral. Your character follows his own set of rules rather than the government's, so he's not lawful. Does he fight the forces of evil (the slavers, for example) or the forces of good (the Order of the Radiant Heart)?

He doesn't like things like slavery. But doesn't neccerialy uphold a code like those in the Radiant Heart. But really it depends on the situation. If he was assigned to kill someone like a great paladin he would do so but with hesatation. If he assigned to do something good like rid of an evil sorceror. He would do so easily. He would do tasks for both good and evil. But he feels better doing good than evil.

Yea, I'd say Chaotic Good would be the best choice Sythe.

I think you need to work through this contradiction to get an accurate view of him. On the one hand, he seems like a mercenary sort: morally unquestioning (Neutral), gets the job done, shows loyalty to his friends, doesn't go out of his way to hurt people (but disposes of impractical adversaries). On the other, you say he *would* break his word if it involved hurting a "good" person or an innocent; more of a CG or NG trait. This directly contradicts the previous mentality.

Give him a voice. Do a bit of in-character writing and describe the events of a few days, or maybe throw in some backstory from BG1. This would probably give you a better view of him than the description you gave us. And when you know how he looks at the world, you know how to look at him.

Your thief sounds a LOT like my barbarian from my PnP days (I created him as a Wizard Slayer in Bg2).

He was most definitely Chaotic Neutral. He had his own personal Code of Honor that he followed and didn't care about anybody else's "rules". In fact, he was just as likely to flaunt a rule from a king or snooty noble just to see what they would try to do. He would battle evil till his dying breath, but he would also take the side of his blade to a paladin's head if the paladin were being too "high and mighty".

All quirks like that aside, he is fiercely loyal to his friends and/or companions and would willingly die for them (taking as many of the enemy with him as possible). An insult to one of his companions was FAR WORSE than an insult to him. He once knocked the party thief across the room for insulting the ranger that led the party (and was the barbarians usual traveling companion). The ranger would never have done anything to the thief, but my barbarian wouldn't allow the insult to go unpunished.

In BG2, his sense of honor has led him to follow the path of Good simply because it seemed the better option. He is Neutral, but can see the advantages of fighting for Good over Evil.

In the trials he has had to face at the end of the game, he has definitely chosen the Good path, because he realizes that there is always some kind of hidden "catch" to choosing the evil path. For instance, he refused to kill a certain creature just "because it was there". He also rejected a gift that was offered to him, because Evil never gives you anything for free.

It isn't exactly true to his alignment, but it IS true to his character and personality. Think about your thief's motivations, and that should answer your alignment question for you.

I'm Chaotic Good ... though I act more like a Neutral Evil mixed with Lawful Neutral. I answer to no-one, except Nalia, and I kill everyone, except Nalia .. and Ribald Barterman, he's my idol.
