I've finished SoA and I'm in the middle of the end battle in ToB. Should I buy BG1 and start from the beginning? Is it worth it?

Apart from the more primitive engine, the game is just as much fun as SoA/ToB, if not more so. I'd say go and get it, if only to experience the beginning of the story.
Believe me, if you're used to the 40th level walking siege engine that a Berserker from ToB is, it's a whole new experience when your 1st level Fighter gets his buttocks handed to him on a silver plate by a few Kobolds.

Besides, by now the game should be available for a low price.

Thanks my main man.

I want the hole story. Playing as a top level berserker. Getting your ass kicked by skinny monsters sounds funny. I'll buy BG1.

An excellent game. There is not quite as much chartacter Interaction but you have a lot more freedom, The world map is 10x better(well its not quite a world map) You can more or less go where you want when you want, only a few areas are restricted ate the beginning. It also is nice change not having super hard high level guy who can beat every one he encounters with minimal effort. There is also a nicer selection of npc's (for example in BG2 there are no strait class thieves and only one Strait mage in BG1 there is someone for all your party needs)

I did the same order as you, BG2, ToB and now BG1.

I'm a fair way thru and I think you'll enjoy it bu there are some key differences:
1) At level 1 or 2, just one good hit on your characters can kill them from full health. This takes some getting used to!
2) The engine is more immature and several features will bug you after BG2/ToB
3) Some of the subquests in the city aren't as controlled. ie you can do things unwittingly that restrict you from completing the subquests completely or properly
4) There's far more battle via ranged weapons, which is different
5) Until you install TotSC, some of your character types can only have one weapon in their quick slot, so if you have a ranged weapon there in the slot, you can't engage them in hand to hand combat, and vice versa. Unlike BG2, going to the inventory screen unpauses the game and your character gets killed while you swap weapons.

But I am not moaning, it's been great fun, has wasted an awful lot of time and I look forward to NWN. I'm usre you'll enjoy it too.

Thanks for the infomation.

I know that 1 hit can kill you. I once was in a battle in SoA and Minsc was level drained. I wanted to finish the fight and didn't heal the poor guy. He was down at level 1 with 5 hitpoints. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

i've done the same thing, first SoA then ToB, but I saw somewhere that Jaheira isn't as hot in the original. is that true? Also if i buy the original should i go ahead and get the expansion pack also to fix some of those minor problems? any help would be appreciated.

If you buy BG1 make sure that TotSC comes with it - I've only seen them together recently anyway. It's definately worth it.
