Ok, this may seem lame, because it isn't a fast, easy way to do it, but I still like the idea. When I first started this game I quickly realized the create/delete character for gold cheat, and also quickly noticed the amount of points that one starts with is completely random. I think I got 14 points to add to any attribute(s) once or twice. So I just kept creating/deleting until I got 11 or more stat points, then made the character that I wanted. I was always making Oomphaz(not sure if I spelled that right) Warriors, then if I saw the stat points was the amount that I wanted, I just clicked back a few times and made the race/class of the character I wanted. Hope This Helps Someone!

Nice tip, Jason!!
Should be especially useful to the new player who is thinking about a solo trip through the game! ![]() Wyv |

Just to let you know: I once rolled a WW character with 24 bonus points. That was a cool one!
I have an idea that a 24-point bonus roll won't come up THAT often, but at least it will give you some idea of the "high end". -Sazerac |

I used the same trick to create my Elf Wizard. I had a first caracter with 17 pts to distribute. However, the base stats weren't that great. I later trashed that guy and went for a 14 pointer. The end stats where: (Elf, Female, Wizard) Str 10, Dex 12, Agi 12, For 10, Int 14, Spi 11, Wil 10, Pre 10. Quite a monster for a solo game!

Very good point, Ryanamur. A lot of times I've gotten an 18-point roll, but sucky starting stats; it was equivalent to a 9-point roll with good ones. You need to look for both good starting values and a good roll. I should have said earlier that the 24-point roll was with good starting values to begin with.

The Omphaaz warrior cannot help anything. As far as my experience with creating characters is concerned, the following probably happens during creation:
1. Initial stats are rolled. 2. Number of initial bonuses is rolled. 3. The stats are updated so that they are acceptable for the selected role. The needed points are taken from the bonus pool. 4. The result is fixed somehow. Therefore, if you create a Pixie warrior, you get low number of bonuses all the time (the warrior requirements for ST and FO eat from the bonus pool all the time) but the average result is not worse than the one when you create an Omphaaz warrior, even if you virtually get more bonuses. Moreover, once you rolled the stats and bonuses, you cannot get better result by switching roles and/or classes. I suggest the following criterion for creating a character: 1. Do not play chess with roles and clans. It's useless. Select what you want to create. 2. Ignore the number of bonus points. It's unimportant. The resulting stats are important. 2. Distribute the bonuses and add all stats together. If you get more than 80 then the character is good. If you get less than 80 then delete the character. Ryanamur's elf is 89. The best character I've seen was 87. In practice, try to raise all stats to 10 to simplify the calculations. You can redistribute the bonuses if you see a good roll. |

I'm curious about this... I've just rolled 70 times in a row, only once rolled 9 extra points, and only twice rolled a character with 79 total points ... average was 73. Never once 80 or over. Never once over 9 bonus points. I was keeping track by tick mark ... 70 times in a row. This took awhile. I am wondering how much time you guys set aside for strick character making? I mean, how many times to do roll before you get an 80-point character ?? I'm thinking "not possible"...but I know it must be, if you've done it so much... Two-three hours on one character? ------------------ "when I escaped I didn't feel like I got away..." |

I never have the patience to do that myself, Green_Athena, and for myself, it really just kind of takes away from the game. Back in the days of the old Wizardry games, it was more important to do that (sit and roll and roll and roll and roll for hours to make your characters). With Wizards and Warriors, it's really not necessary. I can generally come up with a cast of 6 characters with fairly good stats within 30-40 minutes. The only reason you may want to roll high is to get good INT scores for your characters (so they'll progress faster with their skill points) or to be able to role change sooner (better for warriors). I always take longer in rolling my starting warrior so he can change to Paladin soon off and start getting the Spirit spells so needed in the Crypt!
Again, it's all the way one chooses to play it. -Sazerac |
