This is only a spoiler if I'm not hallucinating, but nevertheless . . .

My memory is extremely unreliable, but I thought I read somewhere on this board that another Excalibur sword could be found in the chest on the Bayjin beach.

I can't find the post now, so perhaps I'm just imagining the memory.

But before I try a reload, I want to make sure that I'm not wasting my time. I'm assuming that the chest it will be in is the one that is almost directly west of the Helazoid wreckage.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

if i recall correctly, excalibur can only be found
in davy jones locker (nessie's chest) and in the
rapax queen locker, where you also might come across
the muramasa blade (great sword btw).

in the bayjin hut, you can find the *light sword*
and *light shield*. jan-ette drops the *light shield*
too btw, and the buccaneer ghosts drop *light swords*.

hope that helps.

Thanks Lok,

Looks like I'll be reloading after all--but for that *light* stuff rather than Excalibur.

Do you know if your communication skill has anything to do with whether Jan'ette gives you anything more than the Helazoid stuff? Or is that simply set before you enter Bayjin (or is it reset each time you talk to J)? If you don't have a chance to answer, that's fine. I'm off to find out now for myself . . .

Has anyone seen Jan'ette drop the light shield with the latest patch? I've just done 25 reloads without getting anything but the following:

potions of razor cloak/magic nectar/granite potion/pandemonium powder/potion of superman/potion of hv. stamina/scroll of identify/scroll of whipping rocks/powerpaks (and of course the Helzoid items).

The contents of Nessie's chest are random. You may get something really good, such as Excalibur, or junk. A friend of mind got Excalibur once from Nessie. I did manage Raven's Bill last time out, but my luck with Nessie hasn't been great.

Same for the chest in the Bayjin hut. One time, the Light Shield turned up, but usually all we find is a Vaporizer.

As for Jan-Ette, she never dropped anything worthwhile outside of the Helazoid pendant. Ditto for the pirate spooks by the underwater shipwreck. None have ever dropped any *light* items for me, and my game is patched only for Ascension Peak.

Speaking of the Ascension Peak-only patch, does anyone know where I could get it? i want to patch, but not break Pickpocketing all to hell.
Thanks

well, i got excalibur out of the nessie chest after about 12 tries. save before you enter bayin shallows.

save right before you talk to jan-ette and she drops the light shield after a while. i got mine within twenty attempts.

save right before you fight the buccanneer ghosts and they will randomly drop light swords. took me half a day to get one though,
even despite the fact that i could take them out in two rounds casting a few level 7 banish. they also drop light shields btw.

cheers,
lok - who has excalibur, light shield, light sword, cane of corpus and the muramasa blade. *g*

Although I gave up on getting anything nifty from Jan'ette, I only had to take 3 cracks at the chest in the hut before getting the light sword & shield combo package (with biggie fries thrown in for just 99 cents!). Thanks for the tip, Lok, as there's almost always room for another light sword.

A word of clarification, however, for any who might be glancing through this thread. For some reason, I got it into my head that the chest with the goodies was the one on the beach just west of the Helazoid wreckage. The fact that everyone kept mentioning the chest "in a hut" prompted me to revise that opinion. The chest that *may* include the light sword/shield is in the 3rd beachhut from the walkway (or the one that is NNE of the fork in the mountain trail). It is guarded by a single rynjin sentry, though you'll probably have to go through some other sentries and crabs in order to get to it.

For those with the patience for reloading who still want to get the light stuff as simply as possible, I recommend approaching Rynjin from the swamp, as you won't have to bother fighting the chief and his cohorts each time you want to check the chest. My recurring battles were quick and undistracting: a couple of sand crabs, 5 rynjin at the mouth of the cave (2 of whom usually fled), and 4 sea sprites in the mountains (I never got off more than 2 spells against them before they were wiped out).

As a side question, am I safe in assuming that the light sword and shield are always found together in that chest, or is it possible to get one without the other?

And a question for Ratchild: I never really bothered exploring the pickpocketing feature once I discovered alchemy as the road to wealth. I assume you put such a premium on the skill because there are items that are available via pp that aren't available (or are much harder to acquire) via other methods. Do you mind cluing me into what those items are and how they impact the game?

My fighter got Excalibur from DJ locker in about the 10th try.

My bishop got *Light* *Shield* from Jan-ette in about the 10th try too.

My Lord got the *Light* *Sword* from the buccaneers in about 50ieth try (I did not believe my eyes when I finally got it )

Heading for the Murasma now,... my Samurai is falling behind

Don't care much for the CoC since I do not have a

And yes I have the latest patch

Its actually easier from the Shallows.
-When you first enter bayjin from the shallows drop off the side of the path to your right and run around to the hut through the water. Just wait for the crabs & a couple of wanerign Rynjin to move a bit then you can cross straight to the hut and duck inside to kill the sentry. (this way is alot quicker if you have to re-load).
