Has anyone figured out how to get different results in treasure chests? I was expecting to find a Murmasa Blade for my samurai in the Queen's room like I have found every other time I have played, but I keep getting the doublestrike dagger. Not optimal. I have never gotten anything good out of Davey Jones Locer except the RIng o' Regeneration, but it is not even there this time.

I have portals set to get back there, but when the level is loaded up, no new results come about. I even spend some time screwing around in other parts of the game to give the chests some time to change their minds, but nothing happens. Any clues on how to get better loot out of these two chests?

I think once you enter the area, the items are instantly set. I think thats how it works. However, if a monster drops a bag of loot, you can save and see the contents, load and get different contents.

NO. Bag drops don't change. You have to rekill. Otherwise we'd all be having 7 Light Swords.

When you enter a Zone, all chests in that zone roll for contents. To change them, you have to reload the game from before you entered that zone.

Strangly enough though, after 24 hrs you can save before talking to merchants and their stuff will change, at least the bottom stuff.

And if you haven't talked to a merchant in days, you can save before talking. Then reload to get other selections if you don't like the current one. Best changes of inventory are with Burz, Crock and Ferro.

Edit: for the Queen's chest, I save before going upstairs in the castle and go straight to the chest. Takes 5 - 10 minutes. I reload if I don't get the prize I am looking for.

The merchants' rotation of stock occurs in 8-hour shifts. One shift some stuff is sold, and the other two replenish or add new items. Once you know what time they get which type of new stuff--which changes depending on what was rolled when you entered their zone--you can save just before talking to them at the beginning of that shift. (eg. once you know when Crock gets new spellbooks, you can nap til then and save before kissing him, then reload until you can buy the ones you need.)
You can tell when new stuff is in most of the Merchants' inventory when there are new bundles of 25 ammo, then all the stuff under the new ammo will give you an idea of what they might get. If you sell to them first, you'll re-sort their stuff and won't see that.
You can only sometimes reload your first visit to a merchant to change the inventory.

What are some of your favorites Ziggy? I don't know what all is in there and could you tell me the shortest route to her room from the main lvl?

dunno 'bout Ziggurat, but mine is Muramasa, unless i'm looking for a Coil of Serpents in the King's chest...
And for my route, i go upstairs next to the throne room, the ramp that goes all the way to the Zoo, thence down the chute in the Prince's room.

Ok; that will be good for one of my 3 Samurai. You or Ziggy mentioned something about a weapon(s) in the Rapax Castle also. I think there was a little trick to getting it. Do you remember what that was about? I think it was about a week ago.

There's a Bushido in Ferro's cabinet, and another if you're lucky when you do Raven.
Sword of Fire in MW Retro Dungeon, and Ivory Blade, a Ferro Special, are good swords Sams can wield.
And Cuisinart, in King's Chest, but that'd be secondary to getting Muramasa in Queen's.

EDIT: Rapax Priestess can drop Sword of Fire...i just remembered. You can reload the fight where you get the Sanctum Key, or where you get the Summoning Stone. I imagine also the other ones, but i usually skip those fights and don't remember seeing one. They also can drop Divinemail bits, and other niceties. I've been going in there with fairly weak groups lately, and using Doom's Death Cloud on those two fights and the Throne Room. It's a blast watching 12 out of 17 Rapax Assorteds popping at once.
